Boss flipped out because i folded a note i left on his desk?

I wrote a note to my boss, left it on his desk in a hurry at the end of the day so it got folded a bit accidentally (not even that badly, it was just 2 folds) and when I came in the next morning, he said I need to ask you something and this is kind of how it went.

Boss: "So I come in this morning and see this note on my desk from you and I was SO CONFUSED."
Me: "Why?"
Boss: "Do you see this? It's very folded. I'm wondering if that's how you left it or if it somehow managed its way to that condition..."
Me: "Um I'm not sure sir."
Boss: "Although the note was excellent and I appreciate you letting me know about ----- , I don't appreciate the quality of the note. Please make sure the note is crisp next time because having several folds makes it looks like you are careless."
Me: "I'm so sorry, I'll make sure it doesn't happen again"
Boss: "It better not because it's disgraceful to see something like this."

Then he shook his head and said okay get back to work...

Is this normal? I feel like he overreacted. I didn't even have to leave the note. It was me just being mindful...

It's an overreaction, yes, but generally speaking, you should leave notes unfolded. Visibility, I guess. The way he went about telling you was arsey, though.

Maybe they didn't want anybody to glance at it except him?

Take a big dump on his desk so he can find it in the morning. Then when he explodes after finding it, say " Hey my folded note probably looks pretty good right about now, doesn't it?" "I wonder who did that?" Then go back to work.

That's totally insane. At least it's a fairly harmless introduction to his mental issues and need for things to be absolutely perfect. So you'll know to expect similar things in the future. But that really is over the top.

Your boss sounds like an anal retentive dick. I hope he's not like that about everything... but I bet he is.

Maybe you should sit down with him and talk, while casually screwing up pieces of paper and throwing them all his office. Then take out some food, eat it as messily and as noisily as you can so it gets all over the floor, then say: "how does that look, bitch?"

All this attention about a folded note?
I think you're both nut jobs.

I think there is more to the story. perhaps the note was carelessly folded to an extent that the boss perceived it as a sign of disrespect. I think that's what happens. totally normal

Apparently it's poor etiquette to hand someone a crinkled note in any formal environment. It's like taking a used envelope, scribbling off the old address, writing a new address and mailing it off. You'd think that's getting the job done and even saving paper, but to others it's sloppy (careless), and the lack of seriousness that the sloppiness implies comes off as disrespectful (disgraceful).

There are a lot of annoying unspoken rules out there that are frowned upon. Annoying because the only way to learn about them is via trial and error. So don't feel bad.

sure, he could've made his point in a much nicer way but he had to make it seem like a big deal so that -he- wouldn't come off as pedantic.
