Bringing my dead cat back to life!!

When I was a young my cat got hit by a car and quite literally exploded into a bloody mass of meaty flesh. I was obviously distressed at the time but managed to compose myself enough to collect a small sample of my beloved Minnie in hope that one day they would have the technology to clone me a new one! 8 years later and I still have my piece of Minnie in a jar waiting for clone technology to be availiable to the general public. Is this normal?

Awwwwwwww. What a charming story. I recommend getting another cat and keep it out of the street.

I wanted my dead hamster to come back to life but f*** dude I didn't keep a piece of him!! If it was you, wouldn't you want to be buried in all your pieces?

It could also be considered a keep sake, a memory. People stuff there dead pets or keep ashes of dead pets/family. It's not that wrong.

It'a a cat bro. You can get s new one that looks and acts the same. Try not to take all 9 lives all at once this time. Lol. Throw that jar away. Time to move on buddy That kind of technology will NEVER be available. Sorry

I'm not sure how old this thread is but I think you're normal and the callous people who said that you're not or think that's gross are heartless people and weak. It takes strength and forsight to do what you did and I feel for you. I just lost my cat and he was my life. I was actually considering wearing a vial of blood of his but I forgot to get it because I was so stressed and upset. I wasn't even thinking about cloning. I was going to do it just to be close. I got the idea from Angelina Jolie. She had Billy Bob Thorton's blood around her neck. Maybe a little bizarre but I look at it as wanting to be close to the life force of the one you love. Wish I had done that with my Toby James. Anyway, people may think my comment is off kilter but let people think what they want..and don't ask if it's normal. It is. Don't let society dictate how you feel or how you act. Normal is whatever you are comfortable with. Take Care. All my best. ~ P

I hope by "piece" you meant "fur", you know they can extract DNA from just the fur. You don't need flesh. If it was flesh...ew...

But they do have that technology. They cloned a cat called "CC" or "Carbon Copy".

But right now it's very, very expensive.
And it won't be the same cat, it will just have the same DNA. But I can understand if you considered Minnie to be particularly beautiful. Also, some aspects of personality and temperament are genetic too so you may see a lot of similarities. But a great deal depends on environment.

I actually have a cat I love so much I've already collected some fur, put it in a bag, and so in the (hopefully far) future when he's gone and I've saved up the money I can clone him. He looks so unique and has such a unique personality there's no way I could find another cat like him. I hope I can also create a modified "female" version along with some modification to other genes too so that there's some genetic diversity and it isn't "cat incest". Then I can start a whole new cat breed people can love and enjoy into the future.

Cloning is something that shouldn't be messed with just like necromancy. It's disturbing and shouldn't be messed with. I know you miss her, but you need to move on. It's certainly better than defying the laws of nature. Please get a cat or see a therapist to help console your grief so you can eventually move on.

Nothing wrong with it at all in the long run, no different from stuffing it or keeping its ashes! I mean I hope you kept it in some pure alcohol or the genes will be dead and long gone, if that's so burry it and give your cat a send off.

Buy another cat.. They're pretty cheap. Or just take lost cat.
But you should seriously throw that jar away, keeping ashes and keeping a part of something are two different things.

even in the rare one in a million chancethat could be possible, it might be a cat that looks identical vut it wouldnt be her same soul.

Just because technology may be able to clone your cat someday, it doesn't mean they will find its spirit and shove it back in. It has moved on. It is time for you to move on too.

Honestly, I doubt that this sort of technology will be available in our lifetime.

I once dug up the spot where I buried one of my gerbils and used part of his skull as a necklace, though. Lost the necklace since, unfortunately.

i agree with cheezitup. watch that movie or read the book and you'll change your mind about bringing the cat back to life.

  • (bro) im not saying its normal or not, what i am saying is that i do understand that you miss you cat and wanted to keep a part if him/her. In other countries it was a life-style to do just that. They would keep their ashes, or a part of their body for memory and, or good luck.
(sis) Ewwwwww soooooo grody! But like my bro said i under sand with the part about missing your cat and stuff. But what i do ind VARY grody is that you kept a part of her!

  • JUST REMEMBERED THIS!!! Pets are ALREADY BEING CLONED. It is possible but sadly you can only clone your pet if you still have your whole, living, breathing pet to clone. It costs a lot but no chance for you because you only have part of a cat. But who knows? Maybe they will improve technoloy enough to use just DeoxyRiboNucleic Acid (DNA) to clone something.

This is not normal, but it does show how much you love your cat!

  • Mmmkay... Your cat, Minnie, is probably still pissed off you let her get hit...so she probably tries to kill you in your sleep. Haven't you seen 'Pet Semetary' bury her "chunk of flesh" there. :D

  • "When I was a young my cat got hit by a car and quite literally exploded into a bloody mass of meaty flesh." lol I was laughing already at that time. Go on and keep that piece of crimson cat innards hoping that they will make a clone of your cat someday. Normal to hope, who says you cant keep a bloody mass of meaty flesh? lol sorry about your cat.

  • not normal, but i like your logic! berry the pies, cunstruct a momorial, and when the tech stuff is invented you should dig it out...btw u could probably make lots of money with that idea, AND we already have that technawwlagy... dunno how or wear to use it though...idk, google it?

Well it's hard to tell what "piece" of Minnie Ive stashed, it's got fur on it though so it must be from her surface some where. I'm not gain enough to inspect it more thoroughly, decomposition has pretty much fully set in :(

    • You do realise that if decomposition has set in, eventually you won't have a "piece" left?

Either way, it's not normal and quite disgusting really.

  • I wanted to do the se thing with my ferret but my parents wouldn't let I even locked her in a tuperware container she remains safe baried but one day I plan to dig her up and salvage all I can one they do have the tech.

  • So,she exploded in front of u and u ran to her and grabbed her leg.....

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I don't think it's really normal you collected a "piece" of her but I do understand the missing her part.

My cat died last year granted of old age, so not quite the same, but still I understand. But cherish the memories you shared with Minnie and although it might be hard, you should try to move on. That doesn't mean ever forgetting her, I'll never forget my cat ever but death is an inevitable part of life, no matter what the cause.

I'm sorry for your loss and apologize if my advice is wrong.

Why would you collect a "piece" of her? That's just sick. Are you going to perform some sacred voodoo ritual? Let me know if it works out.
