Can a 22 year old man adopt a 16 year old girl?

I was wondering if I could adopt her so she could live with me and not her dad anymore who is molesting her

Call the COPS and CPS, Help her out that way, as for the adoption I don't think you can adopt being a single parent. Just help her out by reporting it. She'll be 18 soon and that way she can move in legally without getting you in trouble as well.

I used to work in the foster care and kid system, and..No way any authority, agency, or overseeing body would even listen to that. One, as stated above, no way you can afford it, between legal fees involved, and, caring for her another few years. And two, not a chance that you're motives aren't questioned big-time as to why you'd want to "adopt" a female not much younger than yourself. Whole thing just has the air of..You adopting/buying a future wife about it. This is an incredibly bad idea. Move on.

Encourage her to get support from a women's centre or rape crisis centre and if she feels strong enough, to go to the police.

  • Dude, no. Theres better ways to handle the situation. Just be a friend and help her through the appropriate channels. You shouldn't be taking on that baggage at your age. Plus have you thought about finances? A 22 year old guy can't be making enough to support that arrangement.

Sounds like a bad idea OP 👎

Report it. Call the police directly or if youre worried about being the "bad guy" by reporting it talk to the guidance counselor at her school- they're legally obligated to report this sort of thing. Good luck

Yeah that’s not going to end well. Just be a friend for two more years.
