Can a neurotypical get past autistic meltdowns with partner?

Is there a way to navigate this it's ruining the relationship. Basically it is really unexpected and I can't say or do anything he'll freak out at me or not speak to me and I could say I don't really like that shirt sorry or I don't like that tv show or something and he'll not talk to me for the rest of the week... basically I can't disagree with him on any topic or he'll shutdown and if it's not that he'll shutdown from something else that a stranger or his other friends say

He has high functioning where if you don't know him for at least a few days you'd never be able to tell but it's not high functioning if you know him. It's driving me mad but I don't want to have it ruin us.

I understand how it feels. I am also by definition high functioning but if one gets to know me they'll see that i'm definietely not neurotypical. I've never experienced meltdowns though, only shutdowns. If he is what medical professionals refer to as high functioning then he should be able to talk about it and have a certain sense of self awareness but it all comes down to maturity level as well. Even autistic people can have personality disorders as well and to me it almost sounds like that if he stonewalls you on purpose and only treats you that way, no one else, which means it might not be a way he acts in usually but rather a chosen behaviour. You need to try to talk to him and if he refuses to listen and to respect your feelings well then it's like with any neurotypical relationship you need to leave if it's hurting you.
