Can a woman change into a man and have a penis through surgery?

My friend is a girl and says its possible for a woman to have a sex change into a male and have a penis through surgery and it would function like normal able to erect and everything and I say it's impossible who is correct?

    I said yes, however there will be no capability for the new "He" to impregnate a woman.

    From what I understand FtM is somewhat less satisfactory in the genital department than the reverse. Presumably technology will continue to improve though. Even now, in theory they could give a girl a 100% functional penis by taking one from a dead guy... but for some reason that's not a popular solution.
