Can i be a dentist hygienist if i have bad teeth?

My teeth are rotten. I have loads of cavities. I have a tooth that is completely "broken". I can feel the gum and because of that I can't chew on that side. Growing up I did not visit the dentist or brush my teeth regularly. I also ate a lot of candy.

I was thinking about becoming a dentist hygienist but I feel that would be too ironic. I know I probably can't be legally barred from being one but I'd definitely be dissuaded. What do you think?

It's called a dental hygienist not dentist hygienist. It would be best if you pronoiunded the position correctly. It might help getting the job. You will wear a mask most of the time as it is and people wont see your bad teeth. Working for a dentist will get you good, almost free, dental work.

Touché. Well done. But there is a difference between misspelling and misspeaking. I could have re-read it prior to posting.

You can probably get a good discount working for a dentist to get your teeth fixed.

I seriously doubt any dentist would hire you. It wouldn't be too appealing to his/her customers to see your teeth and it wouldn't give patients much confidence.
Perhaps you could make a deal with a dentist to have your mouth repaired out of your wages, after you got the work done.

I think if you are considering studying for this field, you might be young but I can't imagine how someone so young has that much bad teeth. I was also similar to you due to parental neglect, however when I did finally get a check up the most that was wrong with me needed fillings.
