Can my school trace my home computer?

Okay, so a few weeks ago i used my school's online report system to report a teacher who has recently said some very unnecessary and hurtful things to me and some of my class mates. I submitted this report on my laptop at home. On Monday, the teacher who runs the report system found it and he told other teachers about it. For some reason, they are very angry and they are trying to find out which student submitted it. I wrote the report anonymously by the way. I also didn't write anything rude, i just wrote the truth about how this teacher makes me feel. Everyone in my class keeps talking about who they think it is and earlier i heard someone say that the school can track/trace the account which the report was written on. Is this true? Do you think my school would actually go to the extremes of tracing the location of the computer which it was written on, and are they even legally authorized to do this?
Oh and nobody in my class knows that it was me who wrote it, apart from one of my friends but I know that she won't tell anyone

If you posted it through an account registered with the school, then they probably can. If you just filled out a form on your home computer, you should be fine.

If the teacher ever accuses you of writing the report, DO NOT admit it. If any teacher treats you differently because of the report, you should report them to teacher authorities. Don't report to the principal or unions, they work with the teachers, report to the equivalent of Department of Education.

What is abnormal, is the bizarre way your teachers have been acting. That proves that they are guilty of something.

No, I don't think they would be able to trace you.

lol, what a stupid school you have... If they have the option of anonymity, it is for some reason. I don't understand why they want to find out who wrote that report. I think you have the right to express yourself. Now they have the decision to DO or DON'T DO something about it.
I read your post the other day. Maybe he's just kidding. But even if your teacher is just kidding when saying those rude things, you did nothing wrong with giving your opinion on the school website (which is used to it), so don't worry.

If you don't get action with the teachers, the principal, or the school in general you have to go up the line. The Education Board or whatever it may be where you live. Get some support or advocacy from an outside organisation.

Don't let them victimise you for DOING WHAT IS RIGHT!

Whistle-blower kind of stuff here? LOL! They're teachers, yes school teachers. Its not exactly high caliber career option. Do you really think they have the time, budget, or hacker skills to find you? Doubt it. We're talking about babysitters here. What WolfDog said, don't admit anything. Ignore all. They're angry because somebody is ruffling their feathers, poking their turf. Its small fry stuff, nothing.

I suppose if you also connect to the school network from home in an identifiable way (e.g. using your name, or with an account), they could potentially match up your IP address.

Even if possible, I wouldn't expect that to happen though, not unless this is somehow more serious than you're making it sound. For one thing, the teacher who runs the report system wouldn't necessarily have excess to a list of what IP logged in to some other part of the network.
