Can't do a pull up as well as elementary school days

When I was in elementary school I held the record for most pull ups in a row for a girl. My school took all their records seriously and my name is still on the wall of the gym for that category. Now that I am older and stronger it would make sense that I would be able to do more pull ups but that's not the case. I can't even do one! Just hanging from the bar causes me pain in my shoulder. It is odd because I don't remember ever seriously hurting my shoulder!

I couldn't do pull ups then (without help) and I can't do them now.

You're out of shape. You need muscle if you want to do pull ups.

Me being in or out of shape isn't the problem, it's my shoulder. Because of my shoulder I don't even hang from the bar long enough to try to pull myself up. Please don't tell me what shape that I am in since you don't know what I do with my free time

No need to get an attitude. I sounded to me that you're out of shape. If you haven't already, ask a doctor about your shoulder.

Well, you probably weigh more than a 10 year old. Of you don't, then all your muscle is gone. And pain in the shoulder is a reality of life. Try stretching or doing range of motion exercises to keep the shoulder limber. Your joints age, take care of them.

My joints age? That makes me sound middle age. I am a young person who can't remember a time before cell phones :P

Mine started aging when I was in college. So, under 22. If you don't use them, they will get weaker.

Okay that makes sense. I play soccer and lacrosse. I use my right shoulder much more in lacrosse than the left because like most people I'm right handed. It's my left shoulder that keeps me from doing a pull up so what you said seems right. Guess I should teach myself to be a left handed goalie :p

Eh I had a weight lifting class where all I did was sleep and talk to boys. I find anything that you have to stare at the same thing while exercising to be boring. I enjoy being outside and looking around. I'll just try stretching it

when i was like 10 I used to be the only one in my gymnastics class that could climb the rope all the way to the ceiling (~40 feet), now i can barely do 1 pull up either :(

I was the only one who could climb up the rope as well. Everyone else was either unable to or scare to attempt. There was a bell at the top and I would be so proud of myself when I was high enough to ring it.
