Carded at the liquor store-is it bull?

Trying to buy a pint of vodka a few days ago at the LC I was carded. I don't carry it, because I don't like the picture and it's out dated...but I looked for my licence anyway. I didn't have anything but a debit card and a credit card. I said "I don't have it...I don't expect to be carded. Look, I'm nearly 40..."
He said "sorry, I can't sell it to you. You don't look 27, (which is the guideline they use) so I either need to see your id or you need to leave"

What? Was he serious? Blind? I'm 38 years old!

    At the summer solstice festival in Haines Alaska, I was carded upon entry. I laughed and walked on by, after all I was over 50 and had grey hair. Guy grabbed me by the shoulder, dragged me backwards to the gate and demanded ID. Said it was state law. Whether it was or not, there was little doubt that I was of legal age, by at least a year or two. Give a little man a little power and you create a big asshole!

    You know what really grinds my gears?. When they punch in your license number to buy liquor or smokes. What business is it of the governments what we do for our leisure.

    You need to go to the same liquor store all the time that way they stop carding you. Thats what I do. But you should take this as a compliment lol.

    shit, it's a law to card people. If you'd had been a sting, they would have been fined a lot of money and gotten into trouble. Dont be a chump, carry your ID.

    I use to get carded for cigarettes all the time at the shop by my office. They knew me, knew exactly how old I was, where I worked, etc. Yet they still asked every single time.

    Why would you need to be 27 to buy alcohol? Do you mean they aske people who look younger than 27 but older than 21 just to be sure...

    Its kind of a law. If they sell to some kid who looks get another one 30 but is 18 they get a huge fine. If you hate your photo so much get another one....youre supposed to carry photo id. Don't you have trouble using your credit card too?
