How do you trim a stripped nail on a animal? Can you just clip it off? I know that the nail is suppose to have skin in it. I do not know if I can cut it because if I do not get close enough the nail might become an ingrown nail. I do not have a lot of money to take him to the vet but my animals keep getting these. Some of the nails are also broken. So how should I do this? Its a stripped nail and it goes all the way down.

I don't know about cats but dogs have blood vessels in their nails and if they're clipped too close, they can bleed.

    • I know this. Why I am asking. However my pets nails are all broken and split. So it is the main nail and the sides are stripped. You know like when you strip a hair? I want to pull off the hanging part of the nail but I am not sure. I also do not want to cut it of incorrectly or else the animal might get ingrown toenails. However he keeps doing this. Last time he did this the hanging nail just fell off. However this one does not seem as loose.

It wasn't that clear that you already knew. I'm also not quite sure I understand your explanation. It might be better to be treated by someone who can see the problem. Can you ask the vet's advice without having the vet actually do the work?
