Cat ran away...

Is it normal for an indoor cat that runs away to come back? Has anyone else had this happen to them? My cat has been an indoor cat and escaped out the back door when we were renovating the house...he's been gone for about two days. I've never had a cat run away before and I'm hoping he'll come back but I don't know how likely that is. Feedback would be very nice.

Sometimes cats who run off end up living at the neighbors. Once there was a cat in my neighborhood who had 3 owners, and 3 names! It was pretty funny when we all found out. (It eventually settled down with just one family.) And guess what -- I was the first "owner" and I paid to get it neutered. @_@

There is a delightful illustrated children's book that follows this plot. I think that the story may have been based on something that happened in real life.

I do think that it is normal for an lost cat to want to return to its loving home.

My first cat had gotten out a few times, sometimes she would even chill out on the front porch. She would always come back in, always would want to return. I always found her excursions to be very stressful. I don't want to even entertain these possibilities with my second cat.

  • My cat was an inside cat all her life and ran outside. I was worried too, and was surprised when she made it back! I think they are smarter than we give them credit for. She has done it numerous times and comes back. I wish you luck!

Cats run away all the time, but they usually will come back, that is, unless someone else starts feeding them and they like the other person's food better than yours. I've heard of cats coming back more than a year after they ran off.

I really hope your cat will come back! I would be so upset if one of my babies (I have two cats that I adore) ran away. He might just want to explore for a little while, but if he doesn't come back soon, you might want to start searching for him, and maybe ask around and put up some signs. Good luck! I really hope he returns home safely!

that did happen to me once. on the third day, i was outside hoping to see her, but didn't. but i did hear her and she was up a tree. it took alot of coaxing to get her down, but eventually she did come down.

check outside, call your cat's name, and make sure you look up!
