There's a difference between Christians and hypocritical "Christians" like the Westboro Church for example. I don't agree with a bloody thing they say.

unfortunately, every religion, political group, fandom, etc has its share of bigots and ignorant assholes. It just seems more apparent in groups that try hard to keep a loving and open image.

Some Christians are nice people. Others are psychotic fucking fundie whack jobs. You're talking about a group that, loosely defined, comprises well over 1,000,000,000 people. You'd be hard pressed to find anything universal in that kind of demographic. Don't worry, sooner or later you'll find one who won't shut up about how you're going to simultaneously rot and burn in hell.

I think this question depends on how closely your lifestyle resembles the lifestyle of these Christians. You say they are your friends, but if they are your true friends, you probably have a lot in common. I think pro choice people, gay people, and people with wild lifestyles find them a little more unpleasant to be around, if only because they must always be wrong, or they get nagged about their own choices. Birds of a feather.....

It's normal and very nice they you have been able to find good people of that faith. I've tried finding nice Christian folk, but most of my search has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack. :/ Some have been very nice, others have appeared to be nice when really they weren't, while others still were batshit crazy. What we all should remember is that good and bad exists everywhere regardless of a person's belief stance.

Yeah, all of us aren't like that.
(Although I can be a jerk when someone heartlessly steps on my beliefs or someone else's, even if it was a Christian being cruel to an atheist.)

A religion doesn't mean you're a certain kind of person, it's the same with different races. As I have met some Christians who have been total @$$h01es.

I'd be more hard pressed to believe that good people gravitate to Christianity because it's usually considered a thing for caring people to be a part of. To be honest I've met very few other atheists(my best friend is one of the few), and I've met many Christians whom either refrain from talking about their religion or try to shove it down my throat. They're a mixed bag.

I think you're right when you say Atheists just hate christians. These are the first people to talk about others being intolerant and narrow minded when in all honesty is they that are filled with hate and intolerance. Atheists will listen intently and respectfully if someone is talking about some pagan idol worship but just mention the word christian and they fly into a rage. Very very hypocritical if you ask me, because they have a deep hate inside them.
Having a faith in God for me is a very personal matter but for some they want or need to talk about it. It is very open minded and mature of you to listen to those people.

People will be nice to like-minded people. Even when I was a Christian, the best I got out of other Christians was dismissive.

Here to say that just because people seem nice doesn't mean they are. I met a lot of happy happy smiley smiley Christians at Uni, and a fair few of them turned out to be bigoted and became hostile towards me once they realised I was an atheist, but hey, they did it with a smile!
(Also just saying that I don't hate religious people, and some of the Christians I met we're in fact lovely)

Once I was walking down the street and this older woman passed by and asked me if I'd heard about Jesus. I hesitantly told her yes and she kept walking past. That's the kind of christian I like. Although I'm not sure if I heard the same thing about Jesus that she had.. I guess I'll never know...

Historically Christians have been responsible for some of the most horrifying atrocities; the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, just to name two. Even today, the church tries it's best to protect their child molesters (priests)who purport to be "men of god".
These people are not nice because they are Christians, they are nice in spite of it. Don't be fooled, it is not a kind religion to those who are not Christians.
