Christians: if god is perfect then why...?

If God is perfect and all powerful and knows everything...

Why did God cast out one of his Angels? Were they not perfect as he is? Did he want to create Hell and the Devil by casting out Lucifer?

Why were Adam and Eve not perfect? They obviously were imperfect because Eve chose to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree of her own free will, not because some snake told her to. God must have known that this would happen, since he knows everything, right? Why not stop the snake Lucifer?

If God is perfect and made man in his image, then why does man have to circumcise himself?

Why are there so many rules that man must follow, or else be doomed to go to the Hell God allowed to be made? Why not just make a perfect world to begin with?

I could go on and on with this, but you get the idea.

I can't answer that and I'm pretty sure no-one can.

We can all only speculate and form our own opinions, but I suppose we'll never know the truth unless we get the opportunity to ask God himself.

This is all my opinion but because I've pondered this as well, I'll try to give you my opinion on the matter. Pleas don't take any offense to what I am about to say.

To answer your first question, as to why he would cast out one of his angels. I sort of like John Milton's view of Satan in "Paradise Lost." Satan thought he was better than God! How dare an Angel think he is better than his creator. Perhaps God saw that Satan was smarter than him and thought that he would bring the other Angels down to his level, thus he banished him. I don't know why Hell was created other than a place for Lucifer to be, a place to keep him separate from the other Angels.

I think God is imperfect himself, if he created Man in his own image then he must be imperfect. He probably created Man as a way to leave something in the world.

In conclusion, I don't think God likes Perfection. We need evil to exist in the world but we also need good as well. Without misery people would be idiots. We need sad things to happen in our lives in order to make us stronger. We need good things in our lives so we appreciate the precious moments. I think that Lucifer needs to exist, but I also think that he should be kept at bay from God. Lucifer is poison, he is corruption in every form, but he is necessary for man. Does that make sense?

    • This makes more sense than the typical "good vs evil" stereotype.

I do believe that we need a balance of both good and evil in the world, light and dark, night and day, male and female. The constant struggle for this "perfect world" most people look for is just plain futile.

We don't need male and female. Egg or sperm cells can be generated from male or female somatic cells now. We could survive now if suddenly all men died. And once we have developed and artificial womb we could do the same if all women suddenly died.

        • I haven't really pondered the answers, just the questions. But that's just because I'm not interested in Christianity.

Even if the bible had a smudge of truth in it, it's long been corrupted by generation after generation of man. There's no way the current bible story could ever accurately tell the original tale, if it even existed or happened.

I just posted this to get some of the bible-bashers thinking, really. :/

It is true that the Bible has been corrupted.

It is believed that the old King James version is the most accurate English translation in existence today.
There are many places where other versions differ from it completely.

Apparently, the Catholics have their own version of the bible that has been modified as their church sees fit.
The Freemasons have also corrupted one version of the bible, but I can't remember which one.
Bibles are likely to be further corrupted in the future to even allow such things as gay marriage.

While I can't guarantee the authenticity of the King James Bible, I can tell you that it's the most correct (English) version there is.

Lucifer was cast out of heaven for pride. He wants the worship that is given to God, and tried once to get Jesus to worship him by offering him the world. Jesus told him "worship the LORD your God only".

Satan, the fallen angels, and all mankind have been given free will so that we are more than robots. God wants us to love him voluntarily just as a father desires love from his children, not because we are forced to. Forced love is not love at all.

Without Jesus's sacrificial death on the cross, there would be no way to have a relationship with God. Man sins and God cannot permit sin at all. So he gave Jesus to bridge the gap between a perfect God and sinful man.

If anyone has questions about this please respond.

Open your heart to God and you will learn that what you just said is irrelevant because you don't see the picture clearly.

God loves us. He allows things to happen a certain way because he wants to improve us as human beings. He acts as the best father that can possibly exist.

By placing blame on God, you are dissmising the fact that the devil has a place in the world too. Whatever happens to you, either bad or good, you have a choice or a chance to see how to best deal with the given circumstance.

You can either take it as a way to learn and better yourself through God's willing to show you the right way, or take it personally.

Anyway, once you decide how you want to perceive God, you will understand why he acts the way he does. Hence, by completely accepting God as our father, your eyes will be wide open from astonishment of finding out that God is love.

I hope that you don't take my comment as something against you. I am sure that I can understand why you would say that. I have been there too, and trust me, if you ever decide to get to where I am now you will not regret your decision.

Good questions and Anime7's answer was very good. I agree with him.

However, about this question: "Why are there so many rules that man must follow, or else be doomed to go to the Hell God allowed to be made?". There is a huge difference between the old and the new testament. The Old Testament is full of people being punished for not obeying God's laws, but the New Testament is full of stories about love and forgiveness.

In the New Testament, it is said many times that just believing in and loving Jesus is enough to be saved. The God's laws are still there and we're supposed to follow them, but we are no longer expected to be perfect.

I think God knew that the way humans are, they will never live up to all His expectations. Thus, to keep it short: Jesus died for our sins (symbolic act), and a new era began, so to speak.

Just saying what came to my mind. :)

Well I'm not very experienced in this topic, but I'll take a crack at it.. I think that God, who is perfect, made us imperfect, to show us what imperfect sinners we all are. He wants us to see that He is perfect and holy and wants us to admire him. If we were perfect, we would just think of God as some other person, He wouldn't have much appeal to us anymore. Well that's my opinion.. I did my best. It's even a tough question for me.

    Hi OP,

Thank you for phrasing your questions in a way that is constructive and not hurtful. Many people on the net forget religious people have feelings too.

I have a partial answer to your question, 'why didn't god create a perfect world?'.
I think it's about free will, which lauded French mathematician and philosopher René Descartes called the highest human perfection. If god made a world that was perfect and practically heaven, would people be truly free? What do you think?

There is one idea about suffering from philosophy and god. Humans are defined by suffering, goes this line of thinking, and we are carved into whatever we are by what we experience. Soul making, they call this.

However, why make it like that?

You ask for a hateful comment? All right, then. I WILL give you one:

    Be more fucking original.

If you're going to say how bogus Christianity is, sorry, but thousands of other people of done it already. If you're going to be the stereotypical asshole atheist, then try at the VERY LEAST be original. At the VERY LEAST, TRY to say something that thousands of other people HAVEN'T said already.

I fucking hate atheists like you. I can already tell; you're the kind of atheist that makes fun of people for practicing any kind of religion. You're the kind of atheist that thinks anyone who practices Christianity, or Judaism, or Islam is an idiot, no matter how good of a person they are, or how intelligent they are.

There are so many anti-Christianity posts on IIN, already; why even bother making one? Why even bother making another anti-Christianity post, you moron? So you can get a pissed off reaction from someone like me? Someone like me, who actually isn't as religious as I could be, who actually UNDERSTANDS WHY atheists think the way that they do, but still get treated like I'm stupid by those very same atheists because I believe in something they don't believe in?

Well GUESS WHAT. You FUCKING GOT THAT REACTION. You FUCKING GOT THE REACTION THAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.

I hope you have a very pleasant day, knowing that you made one of the most unoriginal posts ever, knowing that you've made the exact same points that every. Single. Atheist. Has. Ever. Stated. Ever.

And also, no. No, I'm not from Westboro. Those guys are terrible human beings. And if you are a troll, then screw you.

      1) Where did I EXPLICITELY ask for this kind of reaction... exactly?

      3) Please apply some butt-hurt cream to your butt-hurt area and take a couple of chill pills. If your rage isn't soothed within 24 hours, take two more and call me. *paper rips, hands prescripton*

      4) I'm not atheist, nor do I make fun of anyone or anyone's religion, nor am I a troll; yes, these questions were legit. I'm a "religious skeptic", someone I met on IIN introduced me to this term. This post was made back when I was doing some religious searching.

      5) As for the repetitiveness, I'm sorry it bugs you so much, but for the love of almighty fuck... get over it.

Thanks for understanding me as much as you obviously do.

Saying things like "Please leave your hateful comments below" is just asking for a hateful comment. Comments like that are just so baiting. It's one of those comments where the OP is just asking for people to spew a hateful comment, and then the OP complains about people saying them. And guess what? You got one. You got what you asked for. You asked people to leave a "hateful comment", and you got one.

Honestly? I don't care if these questions are legit. I don't really care. There are thousands of people who ask the very same questions you've asked: If there's a God, why is there bad in the world? If God made man in his image, why are they imperfect? News flash, buddy: you're not special for asking these questions. They don't really mean anything because they've already been asked thousands of times. They don't mean anything because you're just a number of all the people who've asked them.

The questions are important to people who really want to know, who are really searching. Be careful how you treat people so that you do not turn them away

          Comment Hidden ( show )
        • You are incorrect then. I did not ASK for one EXPLICITLY. I gave you a choice, and you CHOSE to be hateful.

I honestly think I'm being trolled here. If you "don't care" then why bother commenting or replying? Why do you feel as if you need to "inform" me that I'm asking the same "age-old typical atheist questions"?

And finally; why does a question lose it's merit when a lot of people start asking it. Answer: It doesn't. People have been asking the question "What is the meaning of life?" for all of time, and the question STILL holds merit to this day.

I honestly hope you let this thread die here. Go have a nice day, smile, frolic... you know, all those things that trolls do? ^_~

I think you're oversimplifying the idea of perfection. We know what we think is perfection (no war, suffering, etc.) but what if this is not the case. I mean Christians in general claim god is perfect, so what if that is the only truth we know? If god is perfect but only perfect by a different standard, it throws everything off. Also, most of these things come as a result of free will and so maybe god is simply the embodiment of choice, thus creating humans in his image.

The devil part has always eluded me and I have no answer for that part.

By the way, I was raised Catholic and now am more Agnostic.
