Churches holding gatherings on easter

A handful of holdout U.S. churches plan to hold in-person services on Easter Sunday, saying their right to worship in person outweighs public health officials' warnings against holding large gatherings during the coronavirus outbreak.
Apparently they think their god will protect the stupid and the gullible.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

They should just hold their gatherings outside. Cheers.

I wonder if the westboro baptist church thinks god sent covid19 because us Americans are a nation of sodomites?

If they tried that here in Australia, they'd all get hefty fines.

We've had a couple of examples of fanatical groups trying this, most recently an ultra orthordox judaic mob who'd been warned once but called another prayer meeting. They were raided and wll will be fined.

The worst example was a huge international Hillcrest Church do: strangely enough, our pm belongs to that lot and the regulations which would've prevented it began the very next day .... coincidental of course.

We need to implement hefty fines for large gatherings here. If people want to be morons, they can have a choice between being sick/ dead, or broke and alive.

So its only possible that we were put here by a warm fuzzy comforting god. Thats believable but a mean god is unbelievable?

Just be honest you dont know I dont know they dont know. No one really knows.

What I find very odd about the Christian God is that somewhere around 4 BC, this eternal and unchanging deity seems to have changed from vengeful, blood-thirsty, jealous Jaweh into a loving, caring god who just wants us to love him and our neighbours and be nice to each other.

My best guess is that he had some sort of mid-life crisis, and he suddenly realised he'd been acting like a real dickhead.

I bet he also created the cosmic equivalent of a Harley at around the same time.

            • You're right. No one knows. If I was shown irrefutable evidence of a god I would likely change my stance.

Choosing to ignore a directive that's for the benefit of the whole community doesn't really tally with the idea that Christians are supposed to love their neighbours, does it?

I also don't see why anyone should believe that they need to be in a special place to have a chat with a supposedly omnipresent deity. But some idiots handle poisonous snakes or strap on a suicide bomb to prove their faith, I can see why preachers would want mugs in the pews depositing money in the collection plates, and I know from my time belonging to a church that the most important thing for many people is being _seen_ to be holy (not by God, but by their neighbours).
