Close call dognaper tried to steal my dog?

Me and Sig (dachshund) was outside 11PM, he ran around the corner barking at someone.. I was watering my tomatoes, and figured he was playing with my neighbor.. so I went in to fill my water bucket.. came back out and sig was still gone, so I hollered for him and he didn't come, ..I walked around the corner and a Van was running with headlights on I walked past it hollering for sig.. I turned around to walk past the van again and the driver rolled the window down and said.. nervously "I think I got what you're looking for.. Sig was in the van with her and her dog.. she said "we were just going to give him a ride around the block. , I gasped! in shock. I knew her from the apt's, she had just moved in last month (gypsy old looking lady!! 'I thought Yeah-Right at 11 PM! and I don't even know you" 'thank God I walked back to that van! well, I got my dog,.. got home and Breathed CLOSE CALL! What should I do now?

    its normal as in it happens all over the world, i was walking my 2 dogs on the beach, ( George and Red ) last year, and they were in front of me and they ran off left into the dunes,i luckily decided to run to where they had vanished, there was a guy in the dunes and he was leashing George, Red came as soon as he saw me, i shouted and the guy ran off with George through the dunes, I screamed " George " as loud as I could and he managed to stop, crouch down and somehow the loose collar slipped over his head, and he ran back to me. the guy ran off with the leash and collar.

    It sounds really sketchy, but if they had intended to steal your dog they wouldn't have rolled down the window and told you it's in the van with them. Do you think there's a possibility they thought Sig was a stray or a lost dog and they were going to drop him off at the pound? Still would have sucked for you and Sig, but it might be comforting to think there were no bad intentions involved, just unclear communication

        Perhaps she is mentally ill or on drugs or something? That is really, really odd behavior. I'm so glad you were able to get your dog back! That's crazy!

    Some weird old black lady came up to me at walmart and asked if she could take my toddler home and said she lives down the street and Ill know where to come get him. She was actually serious and was super creepy.
