I am a Catholic and I love hard rock music and sick minded comedies. I just think if I don't do all the bad things mentioned in these movies and songs and just go about doing right, then it's all good.
In the end, I always thought of Christianity as best defined for what it promotes rather than what it negates.
You could go through a long list of things that could be suspect (dark movies) but in the end...if you live a productive life, love God, justice, and your fellow man and are concerned always for those around you then I consider a success.
Action determines what exists internally within ourselves. Do people count you as a friend who helps and brings light?
What do you define as "dark"?
You can be intruiged by movies and such - I've watched The Ring, The Exhorcist, and Underworld, too - but you should understand that the novel fascination of those forms of entertainment does not mean you have a lack of faith.
we are talking the same thing here.
tanakh also known as the Hebrew Bible.
Torah first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible and the Bible.
None of these other books are The Bible which the poster say he/she believes in therefore the person it probably Christian. As The Bible is a Christian Book. It includes the entire hebrew Bible along with all of the new testimont. Jesus was the desendent of Noah, Abraham and number of other well know leaders, prophets and follower God in the old testimont. The Christian Diety is know as God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Among other things. I don't know of any other religions who use the Bible as their primary or even secondary source.
I am sorry if you feel a sense of divide because I name my Deity God or Jesus. But God calls Christians to do both name their God and separate from the floak. Start your own thread I don't think the person who wrote this one cares we are even reading it. And your comments are irrelvant anyway.
The poster was just saying"help my life is messed up and I am not living the way I believe I am suppose to"
I COMPLETELY get you. I love God but i can be such. Such. Such. A bad kid. Ive broken pretty much all of the 10 commandments .. EXCEPT KILLING SOMEONE! and im gunna keep it like that! Since u feel like ur a mess i can relate too. When your hurt. When life is smacking you in the nuts..
I used to be suicidal.. Parents argued constantly(which eventually they got divorced). Relationship with them sucked. I had NO friends.1 of two closest just turned their backs on me. The other.. fuck forget her lol. My siblings wanted nothing to do with me, my sister bullied me. My only companionship I felt was with my cat(haha so lame..) and she was taken to the pound. Cried myself to sleep. Attempted to run away. Just hate everything everyone. Used to feel and think why God would let me go through this? So I stopped believing. But after a while I started praying to Him. And with other ugly struggles I've gone through. Whenever I'm torn He's there. place your faith in Him. See what happens.
I heard "dark stuff"and thought okay whatever the path to God is not straight. God wants and love us in whatever condition we are in. Jesus calls us to live differently because he loves has incredibly. I heard "my life is a mess" I thought Jesus loves us through all of our mess. When we surrender our mess to him he brings us in to salvation like buddy says up above. Short for Words knows what they are talking about. I too have experienced this.
Just be as good as a person as you possibly can be. As long as you are not murdering anyone and follow the basic rules I think god will see you are honestly a good person. Do not be so hard on yourself.
Watching movies and reading books and stuff is *completely* separate from what you do. Ignoring certain books, music, movies, internet websites, etc promotes ignorance. You have to know what you don't like in order to know what you like. Now, there's a difference between "not wanting to see it" and trying to ignore it just "because its bad," even though you are curious about it. If you're curious about it, that means that you dont know enough about it to make an informed judgement. And if you stay away from it even though you don't know enough about it to make an informed judgement, then you're just staying away from it because other people tell you to. Are you really being a good christian if you just do what other people tell you to do? Is a robot a good christian?
I hope you're intelligent enough to make sense of this. If not, I just seriously wasted my time.
What is defined as dark is simply an accident of being born in a certain time and place to certain parents. What is dark as a Christian may be good as a Jew or a Muslim.
Personally I think you should do what your heart desires, if there is a god then s/he put you here for a reason and you are finding your path through what interests you. You do you as long as nobody else is wronged or harmed in the process.
What your parents and priest want for you and what you want for you are different. Do you live for them or yourself? Will your journey through life be the fulfillment of the wishes and dreams of others...or of your own devices?
The world will always tempt us. We grew up with these things. I have my own temptations lust, video games, movies too. It's important that we don't cast away the world entirely and isolate ourselves, but sometimes we have to in the world to be with people. I don't mean to sound preachy or anything, I am going through the exact same thing.
This is what I know from experience, the more you feed those temptations, the more hungry they'll get. It's all temporary solutions to your unhappiness. Once you starve off these temptations youll begin to notice and even bigger space in your life, it is not a void though, there are things you can do to fill this time, maybe you need to prepare yourself before hand, as it's hard to jump into. God can use your life if you free up time for him to do so. I'm sure if you cut it down even a bit, you'll begin to notice your schedule freeing up, and then with that free time, don't think about yourself, think about how you can help others, or maybe you should think about yourself, and help yourself in a way that is truly productive.
I hope God makes your path clear.
Dude, I was a Christian for a long time when I was younger and had many Christian friends. Never have and never will think there's anything wrong with dark movies or music or themes in general, religion is about a personal relationship with God and everyone defines that differently.
I didn't mean to step on your toes, but what I meant is that there's nothing EVIL about it, I mean sometimes there is if you know whose behind it, but what I was getting at was not letting your life be about that. God wants a relatonship with us, but if our time is tied to all these other things our relationship may, no, will be strained. It's about focus, people often let it get out of hand. With movies for instance, if you have netflix or rogers, you might be watching 1 or 2 movies, plus tvshows each day and sometimes way too late into the night. With music, how many times do we have our earbuds in and completely walk past somebody without even hinting that we are aware of there existence. These are just some of the things I have struggled with.
The op says his/her life is a mess so I am trying to suggest doing something differently. And what I was suggest was refocusing on God, because maybe she feels like me at this point, the world doesn't make me happy anymore, only temporarily and fleeting, and, maybe if that is not the problem if he/she is having issues elsewhere, she may likely benefit from having a better relationship with God for guidance and security.
I see. I tend to watch movies and shows in moderation so it's never been too much of an interference to me. IIN on the other hand... >.> Let's not go there. XD
I don't feel like I can give the OP the best advice without knowing more about her life. Oftentimes changing your habits and your routine and putting more time and effort into yourself (not to discount her faith) are really big steps in doing so. When I was really stressed out I didn't clean much, didn't take care of my health as well. Now that things are going better I find it helps me relax to try to do mostly only things beneficial to my life and health. I feel like I could have worded this paragraph better but ah well.
I'm not really religious anymore, I don't know what the hell you'd call me. It's kind of Pantheism but that's not a very good comparison either, and I don't wanna write a novel here ^^;
You make a good point, cutting these things out of your life cut and dry, might be really hard if you are attached, it's a whole new lifestyle, I won't repeat myself again, but I believe if the OP frees up some time even to meditate on this, he/she might be in a better state.
Thanks for the conversation :D
ps. I'm afraid all this txt has scared him/her off :P
You have just made a comment which is directly contradictory to the rest of the comments in this thread.
Why are you creating divisions in society?
I am not making comments contradictory to this thread. This post is about a belief in a deity.
Please answer the simple question: Which deity do you believe in?
I did not create any division in society. The poster used a term which does. It divides persons of a particular branch of Abrahamic religions from others.
Please answer the question.
The poster of this thread can probably answer this better. But here is what I understood. The poster says the Bible and God. The Bible is a Christian Book. The Hebrew Bible is used by some Jews and The Torah is the Jewish Bible so to speak.
Based on that I would say this person is speaking of Christianity as the Bible includes Jesus.
The Poster is clearly in distress about how their life contradicts their beliefs.
Hope this is helpful.
This is not helpful at all. It is very confusing and contains factual inaccuracies. It does not answer the questions that I have asked. You have once again used an Anglo-Germanic generic term for a deity, but did not answer who or what this deity is?
You have (thrice) used words that divide persons in society from others, but have not answered why you are doing so. You are reckless in your words and manners.
The Bible is not a book that belongs solely to one branch of the Abrahamic religions. Part of what you said affirms this, but is still not factually correct. Other persons also believe in some parts of the Bible. The Torah is not the Bible for the traditional Judaic branch of the Abrahamic religions, the Tanakh is.
Parts of the Bible were written well before Jesus of Nazareth was born. How could it include Jesus if he was not born yet?
