Cruise ship opportunity

If you were a high net worth (HNW) individual and had the opportunity to live on a cruise ship for 3 years, would you do it?

It looks glamorous, but perhaps there are better options for the HNW set. Please think about it. I am a reclusive millionaire but I may have better opportunities that I haven’t thought of. Your ideas would be appreciated.

If it's a cruise ship and strangers are constantly there, wouldn't bed bugs be a concern?

Trapped in a floating Walmart for three years sounds great.

What a boring lifestyle. Endless partying, gambling and mediocre talent shows. And the risk of disease and fire is scary.

    • Don’t forget the risk of hurricanes, tidal waves, pirates, and icebergs.

Hurricanes yes. Tidal waves aren't a problem at sea cause they're spread out. Icebergs have all but eliminated with the international ice patrol.

three years sounds way too long in my opinion. three months though? i'd consider it.

    • Thank you for your comment. It seems you would have to be a digital nomad to do anything past three months. You could easily meet with your old friends on Zoom teleconferences.

Am I too poor to know what HNW means?

Living on a cruise ship over the short term sounds nice, but I can't make a great call on it since I live inland. I imagine if you could stand it for a couple of months, you could probably stand it for a few years. Just have to make sure the ship's route is extra safe and strangers (specifically, tourists) don't bother you.

    • HNW (high net worth) is arbitrarily defined. But generally it is someone with a net worth of at least $1.5 million or $750,000 in investable or liquid assets.

It was established in 1914 after the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank in 1912.

Genuine question - why are you considering this? Three years on a cruise ship just seems bizarre, surely the novelty would wear off after a few weeks?

There is a news article (mostly the headline) that is currently being circulated around the internet. The headline states you can live on a cruise ship for $30,000 a year.

I imagine this post is somewhat inspired by that.

    • I’ve been on cruises. They keep the ships in party mode. But after a couple of weeks, when the glow wore off, it started to seem like home, with staff.

If you made nice friends you could start kind of a social routine based on common interests.

    If you're a millionaire, let's talk...
Business opportunities, good investment deals, lucrative investments.
You can make a lot of money in Eastern Europe by investing in the right things and mixing with the right people. And I can help.

As for your question - probably not... unless I'm the captain of the ship.

    • Thanks for the offer. But, I’m really tired of business. Just don’t have the energy for it anymore. So, I parked my money in passive investments; mostly low fee index ETFs, and a bit in Municipal bonds.

Robinhood has 4.15% APY now with a $5 gold subscription. Its SPIC insured but you can get FDIC.

        • Meh, no thanks. Firstly, gold doesn’t pay dividends. Secondly, I want broad diversification. Nothing beats the S&P500 for reliable long term performance.

S&P500 is where its at. Gold doesnt pay dividends but unlike banks it pays 4.15% APY with the cash you keep uninvested in robinhood. My bank offers like 0.02% APY lol
