I think that our whole attitude to drugs needs to change. We need to take a step back and think about the actual harm caused by narcotics and go from there. Alcohol and nicotine are extremely bad for you and cause so many deaths. Magic mushrooms, MDMA and cannabis are comparatively safe drugs. I'm not suggesting that everything should be legal or that we suddenly make alcohol and nicotine illegal, but it seems ridiculous that you can freely buy any amount of alcohol and cigarettes but magic mushrooms, MDMA and cannabis are all illegal.
What kind of message does this send? There's no rhyme or reason to it from a health and safety perspective.
Better off sticking with pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers and blue diamonds.
So taking an unknown quantity of a drug of unknown potency that's been produced in a covert lab somewhere that's operated by people who may or may not know what they hell they're doing is more sensible than consuming a naturally occurring fungus whose properties are widely known?
I'm not sure. If it is legalised and lots of people end up becoming addicted to it, then some people might try to rope marijuana in with magic mushroom (just because they're both drugs) and say that we shouldn't legalise marijuana because of what happened when they legalised drugs in Denver.
Im possibly lying but maybe I have been growing these for 10 years or maybe its someone I know thats not me 😉. But yes it should be legal. If it was id lose money but thats ok. Its great for headaches and depression. It really shows you the other side of things. It gives you super creative powers. Which is why music went to shit when musicians quit eating shrooms and taking acid.
People might try to 'pick their own'... then pick the wrong kind of mushroom and poison themselves. It happens enough already without mushroom-picking being all the rage. And it would become all the rage if 'shrooms were legalised.
Too many avoidable deaths.
If it were illegal there would be more people picking their own. Being illegal makes it more dangerous. If its legal you'll be able to buy them at the store. Ive possibly been growing mushrooms for 10 years but maybe im lying
There's lots we don't agree about, but I'm with you on this.
I can understand government trying take some drugs that are dangerous or have a high addiction risk off the street, but I find it ridiculous how all psychotropic drugs are banned. They can be hazardous for some people in some contexts, but alcohol causes far more physiological, psychological, and social problems, and most governments see booze as just a way to raise tax revenue.
I've been intrigued by what I've read recently about micro-dosing magic mushrooms.
We have people trying to get high off all sorts of toxic shit (not mushrooms, but a related example I could think of off the top of my head: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brugmansia#Toxicity) because drugs are illegal. If anything, legalization will lead to better education and increased accessibility to safe substances.
