Did people complain over " today's music " back in beethoven's days?
I wonder if there were grumpy old people in the early 1800s who thought that music back then sucked ass and that it had gone downhill since the days of Bach.

Yes...
The older generation is rarely tolerant of the younger generations music tastes.
Actually people complained more about Bach than Beethoven. Churchgoers at the St. Thomaskirche said that Bach’s music was so complex that they couldn’t sing along with it. Beethoven, on the other hand had a huge audience for his piano pieces, but they thought his symphonies were interesting but hard to understand.
Yeah, there was. A lot of people complained about Wagner IIRC.
