No, but I certainly wanted to. My grandfather died when I was in highschool and my ability with my schoolwork took a nosedive as well as life in general. I even got to a point where I literally believed that it wasn't necessary to get my HS diploma. Consequently, I graduated late (20). Thankfully, I was home-schooled and the highschool offered extensions. I think I used up all three. I wouldn't have been able to graduate without them so, I'm very thankful. I don't tell people out of shame.
When I went to Cocoa high school in cocoa florida I had to fight my way to my classes because I was different, it got to the point that I got really tired of it and I dropped out at the end of 9th grade. I also had to deal with it in Kennedy middle school in rockledge florida before high school.
I was an A student until my best friend died my senior year. I stopped showing up to class and by the end of the school year I had missed so many classes that I had tanked my GPA. My counselor suggested that I drop out and make up the credits that I was missing at the local community college to obtain my diploma the next year instead of getting a GED.
I realized it wasn't for me anymore the school platform sucked. I wasn't impress with waiting around for some prom or grad night. I wanted to move on with me life and began the beautiful journey of doing me. I left and got my ged same year I would have graduated and haven't had a problem using my ged instead of having a high diploma.
I didn't have to; I was very smart, but my attendance made it impossible for my teachers to pass me even though the days I did come to school, I picked up on the material effortlessly (except math).
In the end, I dropped out. I don't handle stress very well, and with my parents constantly fighting, them taking their frustrations out on me mentally and physically, moving away from my friends/family when they finally divorced; ugh.. it just took a toll on my mental health, and didn't have the patience to deal with a bunch of high school children. End up getting my GED on the first try and going straight to college, which was a lot better.
