Did you learn to cut your hair during covid?

I bought a nice pair of electric clippers and started cutting my and my dad's hair midway through last year due to covid restrictions. Not only am I pretty good at it now, but probably saved over 100 bucks on haircuts between the two of us. Never looking back.

Who else resorted to DIY?

I learned / started post-covid 5
I have never cut my own hair 17
I was already doing it pre-covid 14
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I've been cutting my own hair for years. XD

I have been doing my own hair since 2016. Without inflation, and at a modest rate of $15/cut; I'm paying myself roughly $30/hour to cut my own hair, tax free. I can cut my own hair in 30 minutes or less. It looks better than great clips, and I can customize/alter it any time. I'd just be sitting around anyway, and it saves me time and money driving around. Plus, I find it kinda fun and soothing.

I was already doing it years before. I have a very simple, basic haircut and figured it was easier and cheaper to just do it at home.

When I hear people saying this stuff about covid I cant help but wonder where you people are from. Nothing changed here during covid. Everyone is still living like always. Some people wear masks but thats it. There was never any restrictions in my county except you had to go around some weird line to enter walmart. The governor said restaurants were supposed to close for a few days but they didnt. The sheriff didnt care to enforce it

        • Yeah we had a statewide order not to leave your house unless for work or absolute necessities. Business owners were getting permission slip style papers to give to their employees so they could go back and forth to work. Most people didn't listen, but alot of businesses did shut down for a while

It's illegal to cut my own hair or touch myself in my state. I have to socially distance myself from myself by 6 feet. That means when I exhale I have to move 6 feet away before I can inhale.

That's fucking funny, had me going that first sentence. I was like, "How the hell do they enforce people not cutting their own hair?!"

Im a guy that used to get a cut every 3 months. But, it's already been a year and I'm thinking about sliding my next appointment out to 2022. Turns out that I kind of like it long.

I have been cutting my own hair for many years, people ask me how do you do the back. Uh, it is called a mirror. It is difficult getting used to movements being the opposite but once you get used to that it is pretty easy. Just cut my hair this morning.

I've done a bit of it, but I haven't learned very well.

I don't cut my hair, although I get it trimmed occasionally. Having been forced to wear short hair for most of my life, I let it grow.

I do the rough cut, then my girlfriend does the rest.

Been doing it since she moved in with me, probably saved a good amount of money. In Germany the cheapest haircut for men costs 25 Euro.

Ouch, that's expensive. mine costs a tenner (UK). Are the hairdressers in Germany normally quite well off then?

Probably? All hair salons have a posh look, so maybe...

Tho they make the real money from female customers. My mom pays up to 50 Euro for her hairstyle in Bulgaria! Tho this usually includes hair dyeing and those paints ain't cheap.

I have no idea what my girlfriend pays for her hairstyle and quite frankly... I don't want to know XD

  • Nope, rushed to the barbers after they opened up after lockdown.

I've done basic trimming for year... However, a barber does a better job and also shaves the back of the neck to produce a clean break between my hair and my back (I have more than normal hair on my back).

Once I got married my wife now usually does my hair. She cut hair in her home country (and had professional equipment); but, cannot get licensed in the USA without attending school for 6 months (crazy - isn't it).

I always just put the largest guard on my eclectic shaver & act like i'm combing my hair.

I've never cut my own hair. I don't have my hair cut in general though, so I suppose I'm an outlier.

Nah, I don't care about the look. I just don't see any point to cutting it. Cutting one's hair is an inconvinience to oneself, so why would one cut one's hair if the hair itself is not an inconvinience? I feel the same about nails.

No. They're fine. They're not of any length that inconviniences me, so I don't cut them. I have cut them, when they have become inconvinient, but, in general, that takes quite a while.

Oh dude. That’s so gross. Dudes with long nails are nasty. It’s just evidence you don’t do shit with your hands. I can’t even imagine what your toes look like. Yick

Its rocket science with curly hair. I need layers and its harder to layer when you cant properly see the back of a head
