I do not have a crush on here.
I choose to not go on here as much as I use to and do not want to have an online crush.
There are numerous users I find attractive and that I am fond of, but I can't say I have a crush on them. The whole internet thing kills it.

I'm not going to name names, and some people definitely know, but I have done before. That person was special to me, and was the rare combination of everything I wanted at the time, but now that time has passed I'm happy with the way things worked out.

I don't understand how anyone could fall in love with, let alone have a crush on, a cranky, judgmental, old man. Because I don't understand, having a relationship with sn old man is therefore just sick desperation, loneliness and mentally unbalanced.

Perhaps there are real people behind the screen names, but are they who they represent themselves to be? So many of you don't seem to be able to make the simplest human contact. Daily there are posts on here; I'm (choose an age between 12 and 37) and I've never been kissed, had a date, or I can't talk to the other sex.
There is a whole real world out there, full of real, honest to goodness people, but so many of you choose surrealistic relationships with characters that have absolutely no basis in reality. And you all post as if this is perfectly normal. You thumb me down for pointing this out, but YOU are the ones not getting anything from life (a third of you post as if you are on the verge of suicide, for fuck's sake), not even the warmth of human companionship. YOU are the losers here, folks, not me. I've been kissed, had a date or two, and know what it is to love and be hurt. It's called living, not hiding from life behind a computer screen.
I don't want you to have a crush on me or a relationship with me (I'm just fine in that department, thank you very much), and I honestly don't care if you like me. But if you'd listen rather than getting all defensive, perhaps you might get curious and get off the computer and take a walk, and say hi to a real, live human being, which might lead to a relationship with something other than a big eyed, cartoon character.

Why should anyone care about what you say when you are constantly berating them? In all of your years of wisdom, you clearly don't know enough about people to understand that they don't appreciate being treated like shit, which is what you're famous for. Not all 'old' people like yourself are complete pricks about helping others. There have been other elder users on this site in the past who were kind in their delivery and THEY made a difference in the lives of those who were lost and in need of help. Two, that first come to mind, were joybird and Mando. Their comments are all over the posts on this site for anyone to see.
Sorry but not everyone is as easy to please as you. Since you seem rather simpleminded its understandable that you've had the luck in finding many mates, and that you base self-worth on such a thing. But for others it's not as easy as going outside and saying hi- who's to say we haven't tried this, come across plenty of chances for human contact, but were not satisfied by it? Then what? I guess we're just losers though, according to you and all the other "normal" people behind you, so why should we care what you say? Not everyone is into the same lifestyle as you.
But it is as easy as going out and meeting people, or the human race would have died out long before the WWW was invented. If your ideal "friend, or lover or mate" is based upon a fictional character, then how could you ever expect a real world satisfying experience?
I'm sure it is that easy for the majority of people, but there are always those "pot without a lid" types... When you were younger didn't you ever fantasize about your perfect woman? She didn't exist either, but you try your best to find someone with those qualities in real life. For the most part, people who love fictional characters know they can never replace human contact... But it holds them over until the right person comes along. Is that really so bad? I mean it doesn't hurt anyone, I'm not sure why it bothers you so much...
Imagine if the world was filled with these "losers" that you dislike so much, can't understand and have nothing in common with... Saying hi won't change much, and it would get very lonely for someone like you...
I attend parties, social dinners, friendly gatherings and class reunions. I talk to my family, neighbours, colleagues and seniors just fine. If I have to say so myself, I do think I have a satisfying social life. Despite so, I have a crush on someone I regularly talk to online, whom I haven't seen since 4 years ago because he's furthering his studies in Japan. He's seas away. He's technically online now.
I don't think that makes me desperate. Do you still?

With the internet now you can do everything BUT touch a person. You can look into their eyes, hear their voice, laugh together, tell each other stories, flirt and so on. How is that not "human contact" or "direct communication"?
It needn't be restricted to a faceless pseudonym and text-based conversations. This isn't the 90s.
So why is it so hard to imagine developing a crush on someone over the internet? Have you only ever developed a crush after touching a woman?

And I don't think many people here would say that an online relationship is preferable to an offline one. But it would be bizarre not to see the dating potential of a vast network connecting billions of people, wouldn't it? Think of it like widening the ocean; plenty more fish than just those swimming in your local pond.
You have made a very valid point. What began in my mind as a faceless crush on IIN, morphed to the internet in general, with no thought of video/audio and personal, open communication. I concede that it is possible as you have stated; "You can look into their eyes, hear their voice, laugh together, tell each other stories, flirt and so on." for a genuine relationship to form. As I do not ever use the video or voice features online, it was my failing not to see that aspect of it.
For a film to be moving it requires a connection to the characters within it, often this means fictional characters, surely you've at been moved by a film at some point
I watch films and do become intensely involved with the characters while I am watching it, but I do not go on to create a fantasy relationship with that character, after the show finishes, do you?

One film that gets to me when I watch it is Gladiator, especially the end of the film when Maximus dies and it shows how many people had cared about him. He had honored so many people and had been through so much and the movie shows every bit of emotion that exists.
