Do i genuinely like art or just a pretense?

No silly, if you like making or looking at art in any way then you like art. There are many reasons someone may not enjoy going to galleries. Maybe you hate walking, don't like the art at the places you've been to, or just get bored easily. It took me until I was older to find interest in art history, which is something that you need to really enjoy museums. A lot of it is about history.

You enjoy doing art, but you're not much interested in what other artists have done.

I see nothing wrong with that.

If you want to make a living as an artist, then you need to know something about the history of art, be able to spew all the BS associated with the art business, and keep up to speed with what your competitors are doing. If you just enjoy the actual process of drawing, or expressing your thoughts and ideas artistically, then you're doing that for yourself, not for anyone else.

There's nothing pretentious or fake about that.

To expand even more for years I told people I "like music". But now its something like, I like to sometimes play electric bass in a group when there is low pressure to do well. I like to DJ sometimes when I can manipulate the music. I like to sample through and hear what songs sound like but just skipping around them, much more like a sommelier samples wine than what people mean when saying " listen to music". I enjoy contemplating some esoteric music but enjoy here is more of a weird exciting feeling with a dose of negative emotions mixed in too. I dislike playing instruments alone, I dislike sitting down and listening to full songs. And I really dislike attempting to make my own songs. I've found other people who "love art" or "love music" too who don't. My favorite part of museums is the big clean rooms.

There's many different options. Liking art is not simply enjoying looking at a van gogh as you would enjoy getting/giving a blowjob. To some it is that they enjoy learning about what made that piece what it is be it technique or history or concepts. To others it is they enjoy developing their own ideas and the piece itself becomes a starting point merely for an enjoyable train of thought or conversation. There are many more ways you can relate to art. But ultimately none of these, your understanding of them, or confusion, shape who you are in any way. It is nobody else's business how are why you like or are indifferent to art. If you choose to see it as a badge and proclaim it for other people's amusement I don't know how much it will help you in the long run. I hope this helps.
