Do i have to tell colleges/financial aid i’m a paranoid schizophrenic?

I’m 18 and a male, I got a few football scholarships to a few different places, but I feel like if I apply to them and I have to tell them i have paranoid schizophrenia they won’t let me in.

Or if I don’t tell them they will find out and then still not let me in or wonder why I didn’t tell them, they’d think I was hiding a secret or something. And for fafsa do I have to tell them? My friend said they may give me a scholarship because of it or financial aid.

But I don’t want the colleges finding out if they wouldn’t want to have someone like me in their school. Also what if when the college finds out they make me go through therapy or take weird special classes and then everybody finds out? What if they don’t let me play football cause they think I’m crazy or they do let me play and my team finds out and they turn away from me or my coach won’t play me or other teams find out. If people find out I’d be fucked, right?

But I don’t want to lie on my application or when filing for financial aid and get caught and blacklisted or banned or charged or arrested or anything like that caus ehow would I get a job or buy a house or feed myself or pay my bills? I’d live on the street and be blacklisted as a liar or a scam or a cheat and nobody would hire me for any job. But if I don’t have to tell them it doesn’t matter if I do or not. Right???

    Ask a mental health professional what you should do. Don't you have a psychiatrist and or psychologist who can advise you? You have a mental illness, but you are not your mental illness. It doesn't have to define you, but you shouldn't be afraid to get the help you need either. Hang in there, and don't give up on yourself.

      I have a psychiatrist but I don’t go see her because I know they will track my phone then they will know I’m not right in the head when they see that I’m at a clinic. I don’t think I’m bad enough that I /have/ to talk to her.

      There’s just so many tracking devices and cameras these days with technology and I just don’t want them to know that I’m sick, none of my friends know, my team doesn’t know, my girlfriend will never know. I just don’t think I /need/ help yet. Thank you though.

    Don't tell anyone your mental health issues unless you absolutely have to. Once you do you are going to be prejudged, even by doctors. Unless you need it to survive never accept help on the condition of mental health or disability.

    There will come a time when you have to disclose but try to hold off on it for as long as possible.

    You don't have to tell anyone shit.

      Thank you, I agree, I don’t really believe in mental illness all that much anyway. I’m just a little nervous I don’t think my brain is broken or whatever.

    You don't have to tell anyone. So it doesn't matter if you do or not, correct. But if you want to get better, I would recommend talking to a psychologist. They can't tell people what you have, so don't worry about them exposing you.

      I don’t talk to my psychiatrist because I don’t want people hacking my messages or calls to her or tracking my phone to see that I’m at a clinic. I’m not bad enough that I have to get help yet, so I put it off.

        You could just leave your phone at home on your visit. Lock it in a box or something.

        You should be able to delete your messages and calls. Even then, you can set a password. An extremely skilled hacker wouldn't care about hacking a random person.
