Do i need to get a new laptop if another laptop was stacked on top of it?

I found out that my mum had moved my brothers laptop and stacked it on top of my brand new laptop yesterday. Luckily it was only in that position for a few hours before I saw it and separated them. But I'm not actually that techy, and when I Googled laptops being placed on top of each other, it seems like people think you shouldn't do that. Now I'm paranoid if my laptop could have been damaged. Or am I overreacting a lot, since it only happened once?

    I never heard any story saying that is the S.O.P. for when laptops mount each other. At least your laptop is still a virgin.

    I think if everything seems to be fine with it, there's probably nothing to worry about. Maybe take it to get inspected at a computer repair shop if you're really worried?

    Nah, dw about it, dude. You defo shouldn't be putting any serious weight in your laptop, but this'll be fine. It's just something you should tell your mum not to make a habit of.

    The only possible way I can see how that might have harmed your laptop is if your brother's machine was being heavily used (like for some graphics-intensive gaming) all the time and so producing heat on the underside, and that was making the back of your laptop's screen very hot. LCD screens consist of a several layers of very thin plastic film with the liquid crystals between them, and so they can be damaged by heat. This is why there's always a warning somewhere in the user manual for any device that has an LCD screen that the device should not be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods and it should be kept away from other sources of heat.

    Whether or not your screen would be damaged would be determined by how much heat your brother's laptop was producing, whether or not there was an air-gap between the top of your machine and the bottom of his which would allow that heat to escape, what sort of separation there is between your the back of your laptop's screen and the case, and how sensitive the screen is to heat.

    If your screen looks normal now, then the odds are that no harm has been done, but you'd probably be wise to mention to your mother and brother that stacking laptops when one of them is on isn't a great idea.

      It does look fine, but I hate the idea it could have done some internal damage to a brand new. I'm just hoping it wasn't long enough or often enough to do that.

        My boyfriend used to teach at a few schools and they'd stack two sometimes four laptops on top of each other. They all worked perfectly fine with no problems.

        Like I said, it's only your screen that might have been damaged, that would have only happened if it was very hot for quite a while and if you were unlucky.

        If your laptop was off, there's no way your brother's machine could have heated it up enough to damage the electronics in the keyboard section of your laptop. His machine would have been a puddle of molten plastic before that happened. (Actually, his machine's thermal protection circuits should have shut it off long before that point was reached.)
