Do men tend to have female pets and women tend to have male ones?

Just wondering what the statistics are on this. I mean mostly things like cats and dogs but you can put any pet you may have.

I just pick pets that need homes regardless of sex. And I've always had male cats. I do like them better than female cats. I've not had a dog in a while but had both male and female growing up. Of my friends who have dogs, I tend to like the females better.

    And I'm a female.

I'm a guy and I prefer female dogs. This is because with a male it's harder to pet their bellies without touching their... You know what. With females you can rub their bellies freely without worry!

It depends on the breed of dog. Shtland sheepdog males tend to be less upgight than females. I tend to like female labs better, and more dominant breeds in general, sometimes the females are easier for me (a female).

I prefer whatever personality traits the animal brings to the table and how we get along, not so much the gender. But I find that I get along easier with male dogs because they seem to be very easy going around women moreso then men. My dog is a male, and my sisters dogs are male and she said she doesn't like female dogs because she finds them bitchy.

  • Not really. I think I used to when I was a child, however I prefer male animals now. I don't know what it is, they just have a certain elegance to them, especially my male cat and my male horse (well, the oldest male).

    • I can see that. It seems like male animals are even more selfless yet confident, at least judging from my boy cat of 17 years ^_^

I'm a guy and I have a male dog. It's my family's dog though, although my family is mostly male so it still works. All my previous dogs were female though, so :P

I don't really have a preference. It's all about temperament. I like being able to call a dog "mate" though (even "bro", sometimes), which is predominantly a male word.

Someone once told me that female parrots prefer to have male owners, whilst male parrots have no preference.

If they are neutered, who cares?

I agree with howaminotmyself, animals in need go to the front of the line, regardless of sex.

I am a male bird with a male dog. He was just the kind of dog I wanted and it was a spur of the moment thing. He does love women more than men, though. It's just obvious he should've been a girl's dog.

I kinda wish he was female so I could call him a bitch when he's being a dickhead.

I'm female and I thought I have had mostly female pets until I counted them. Two dogs, two cats, two spinifex hopping mice female, one dog, three spinifex hopping mice, two mountain pygmy possums male. None have been from my own choice, they've been family pets. Oh budgies were about half and half, too. I forget how many of those bastards we went through.

Fish don't count. And they only eat each other anyway.

    I have no preference, though.

Oh. Male normal pet mouse, but that was only for three weeks or so.

I do hate a generalisation, but I have always loved cats, and do prefer a tomcat. (I am a bloke, by the way.)

When I was growing up I had a female cat, and once she died we got a male cat and male dog, and just recently got a female dog. So I've had one of each lol :)

I don't know why, but I've always been more inclined to pick female pets. I'm a female myself. Maybe, it's because the majority of animals I get are rodents, and females are easier to house together and the like. However, even outside that area, I have still preferred to pick females, perhaps I like the look better? Slimmer, more sleek...
