Do u think the past had more attractive people than today?

I realize attractiveness can be very subjective but in general sense to me It seems as if there were a lot more attractive people around in the mid to late 20th century (1950’s-1990’s) as opposed to today. Do you agree? If so, how severe or subtle of a difference do you think it is? If you disagree, do you think the opposite is true? Or it’s just about the same?

Vote and share any thoughts you may have below, I’d be interested to hear what you have to say.

There was WAY more attractive people 23
a little bit more attractive back then 17
Probably about the same 13
Today has a little more attractive people 4
Today has WAY more attractive people 7

The key reason was that back in the 1950's to 1970's people were far more likely to be at their normal weight, and relatively few people where significantly overweight.

Due to diet and activity changes a lot more people are overweight, and quite a few people are outright obese (I'll admit that I was once about 300 Lb, and now just trying to loose another 11 lb).

People look at lot more attractive when they are near their normal body weight, and not significantly overweight. Also, muscle tone is better for people near their normal body weight, which is also visible as well.

Thanks. I hope I also answered your question too.

My wife (from Ukraine) cannot believe how obese America is; and notices that all the movies and documentaries from decades ago show "thin" people; and we often have various discussions on how the American Diet and habits have changed (and not to mention that food here is cheap and there is a lot of food wasted or over-consumed as a result; which my wife tells me would never happen in Ukraine).

Thanks; it has taken many years - and often in spurts, and then steady at a lower weight for sometimes a year or so.

Biggest thing was diet changes, which went 1 step at a time.

At the current time I am also exercising 5-6 hours a week (I have a high quality home gym - I got tired of the cheap machines breaking down: My current main equipment set is a "professional" model Total Gym 11000 from 2002 and a Landice L7 Treadmill from 2005. I also have a 4'x8' 1.25" thick mat with assorted balls, hand weights, bands, etc. The mat is big enough to spread out and roll around on. It's nice when you have room for all of that.

  • I think perhaps you find styles from certain time periods to be more in line with how you view the world, which is why you probably like them

I would say try to figure out what exactly you like, like what it means to you for women to present that way. It takes a mentality to do something, so although the styles are different if you can recognize what image particular women you find attractive are trying to convey, you can then recognize the same thing in women you meet every day

I find that today we are soft and false.
before it seems to me that we were more dynamic and more real in our appearance.

I thought that people are now more attractive than ever before, due to more and more ethnicities mixing. Diversity is good for survival so humans are drawn to it.

I can't remember where I read that though, so I can't say what their measure of "attractive" was in this study. That information would be very helpful and interesting. Oh well.

It's hard to say, but I think olderdude-xx has a point with the fact that there were less overweight and obese people back in the day.

Personally, I also much prefer the styles of the past to today's. I think the hairstyles and overall fashion was much more flattering years ago (my two favorite decades for this are the '70s and '80s, but I like stuff from other decades as well) than today's, which I find to be pretty drab. To me, voluminous hair flattered people so much more than shaved sides and that "beach wave" style or whatever that is always super flat at the top, like their hair is plastered against their heads. I also LOVE shoulder pads on women, and bell bottoms were pretty cool as well. A flattering style IMO increases overall attractiveness.

My favorite decades were the 80s, and 90s. That so called beach wave style looks like dog crap.

I think so, too! I've never liked it. Just looks like messy bedhead to me. What I never got was, why do girls spend a bunch of time on this style trying to look like they spent little to no time on it? It's the same way with the trend of having like 3+ inches of dark roots (I believe they call it ombre?); why spend all that money to look like you bleached your hair months ago and never did anything to it again, lol?

Yeah, that stuff looks like crap, but at least they're not wearing powdered wigs, and lead based makeup.

Yeahh, people were more natural and they had more style and overall seemed/looked healthier but I guess food was healthier back then too. However I wouldn't wanna go back, you have more freedom these days in terms of fashion.

Ladies underwear was far sexier in the 50's and 60's.

The reason women looked better in the past is because they are fat nowadays, have too much makeup on and the fashion trends are just not as elegant. Men are not as attractive because they're just more wimpy, and also lack the elegance.

Define the past. Are you talking 2 years ago? Or 20? To me I instantly went to the 17 and 1800s. Past is my choice. I agree with the obesity issue and tattoos are a big issue for me one small one maybe but sleaves, full body, and face tats, I'm not a fan. I guess it all depends on compared to what. Roman days fat was considered very attractive. I should have lived back then. Lol

My fault, got caught up in the headline and comments and missed the time line. I would still say the past was better and I loved the 60s 70s styles, but that's why we keep changing current styles get old and we want something different and the styles are kind of what we look at to judge attractiveness. Less or more make up, more or less skin, hair styles, and yes even weight, tats, and earrings.

Idk, it's like older women back then basically gave up on looking attractive and got false teeth and wore shawls.
