Do we really have to instruct people to "wait for the beep" still?

We've been used to answering machines for decades now, is it really necessary to instruct people to "wait for the beep" or "leave a message after the tone"?? Come on.

I think just to fuck with people, we should all pretend like we were talking LONG before the beep. Like those assholes who think it's hilarious to have a greeting that sounds like they're at a party and saying "Hello??" HELLO? Just kidding...it's not really me, it's a machine!!" (har dee har har, motherfucker) Payback's a bitch. You're only getting the second half of my message and 3 digits of my phone number.

is it normal to still say 'wait for the tone'?? Do you say that in YOUR greeting?

    Are you kidding me?
We still have to instruct people not to drink and drive, not to leave poisenous household cleaners near kids, not to use drugs during pregnancy, not to smoke cigarettes, not to overeat and not exercise and most importantly of all, NOT TO FEED THE DAMNED FISH.

So yeah, it's probably necessary to keep telling them to wait for the beep.

There are stupid people out there. But I agree with you.
I have a pillow with a tag saying "not intended to be eaten". Holy crap! Who tried to eat one? And then sued because there wasn't a warning label.
Sorry, but we have to cover the idiots in this world who need every day hand holding.

I saw a hair drier that came with a "not for use in the shower or while sleeping" tag. Really?

Wonderment and amusement both, like somebody is blow drying their hair in the shower? Really?

I don't have an answering machine. Or a phone, come to that. But when I did, I was one of those annoying people who asked people to wait for the beep, made the beep noise myself, waited 10 seconds then said, "Not that beep, this one" and let the machine do its stuff. You get incredibly flustered messages from people who had the whole thing rehearsed in their head until you threw their world into disarray.

And, yes, I really did used to be even more annoying than I am now. Be thankful.

"Hi you have reached Kyle Dunham with Reliable Imports, and I am out of the office at the moment. I would be more than happy to contact you when I return, so leave me a brief message and have a great day!"

This is my phone message, and it is recorded in the voice of a girl that works here as our receptionist. Exciting I know. before I was a "business professional" I was able to have much more interesting voice mail messages! One time, I even got shit faced drunk and recorded one just to see how many people would laugh.

  • We should do away with warning labels all together and just let nature sort us out.

Yes, yes, a million times yes! Talk about the end of the over population problem, AND the stupidity problem! We could put evolution back on track that quickly!

There will be far less attendance at state fairs and Nascar events though.

I hate the messages that say "hi, you've reached Alan Birthright of Corporate Asia, leave a message and I'll get right back to you." NO I HAVEN'T REACHED YOU ALAN! ARSEHOLE!

Sorry, I got a little bit specific there.

Yeah I hate waiting while being told to wait for the beep too, just ficking beep already.
