If you do. What god or gods do you choose to believe in? And out of the 4,000 religions in the world do you think yours has to be right? What actual proof do you have?

  • Until we have firm evidence either way, the only logical position is agnosticism.

No I personally don't think God is real and if he is he is a prick.

But if anyone else wants to believe in him that's their business.

I believe in God, Jesus, heaven, hell, etc.
I was raised this way, its kinda ingrained.
In times of serious trouble prayer mattered.
    To me, God answered.
    Thats my belief.
But I dont think ANY religion should consider itself superior.
Its up to God to judge you, not me.
    True, I dont like jews.
But thats about politics and control.
    Not their religion.

    • That’s a good answer in my opinion. The one issue I have with what you said is that you believe in Hell. I’m not trying to be an ass by asking this but how can you believe in a just and loving god and believe he sends people to hell to be tortured for eternity? Hell doesn’t make sense and contradicts god being all good.

        As for hell.
        I agree with you.
I have a lot of questions.
Why did god allow satan into the garden?
Why put the apple tree there to temp them?
Repetedly god was willing to kill everyone and start over.
So why not put the devil in hell, remove the apple tree and let man live?
They just cruised around nude, having sex, no stickers, poisons, thorns, etc.
Why all the sacrifices, including jesus.
' sin had to be paid for'
Hes god, he made the game, and the rules.
He could have not insisted on so many death and blood rituals.
        His favortism of jews.
As any parent knows, favoring one of your kids and giving them special rights, etc.
        Is just crappy parenting.
But, I dont know or understand everything.
But, I do believe in the bible.
None of us will know whos right or wrong.
        Till after were dead.
Then IF there is some afterlife, reincarnation, judgement, etc.
        Well all find out.
Personally I would rather there was no such idea as an afterlife.
        Just life, and then death.
        THE END

Hell is here on earth 🌎. You gotta pay to pray to something that no one knows if actually exsits. All the bible is is gibberish that men have written over many years.
It is your choice to believe in it or not.

Christian here. I'm not 100% sure that it's true, but I think it's likely enough to put Yes.

What makes the difference between Christianity and other religions for me is that the Gospels spread so fast in ancient Rome even when Christians were being killed by the government.

The disciples being Christians is one thing - maybe they were just doing it because they had spent so long following Jesus. The problem is all the new people - people who had a lot to lose by being Christians and nothing to gain unless it was true. They probably wouldn't have become Christians unless there was evidence back then, like eyewitnesses.

Why do we have to question others beliefs? I see OP wants to question everyone as to why. Does it matter that a person believes in a God, no God, many Gods? And why is there the infinite need to keep debating it? Oh, i know because people who constantly questions others beliefs and try to debunk them think they are fucking smarter than everone else.

OP you are not trying to gain info or insight into human behavior, you are just trying to be a dick.

    • Your belief must be really weak if you get so offended by simply questioning beliefs. No I’m not trying to debunk anyone simply trying to understand them. I don’t believe I’m smarter than any of the other commenters. I’ve not insulted anyone. Your the one that’s being a dick.

Well, you know, I created my own religion, if you like to call it that. I don't know how to describe it, but in my ,,religion'' all gods exist (Scandinavian, Egyptian, Hindu etc...), but most powerful and important is God from christian religion. I don't know why, but it's just is...

    • Though I like your idea of religion. Why is the god of the Christian religion the most powerful?

Honestly, I don't know... I think He is the most important, because I was raised by christian parents and that Christianity is the main religion in my country and that made me think that way...

        • At least your honest enough to admit that it was how you were raised. Even though I believe that religion in general is not only wrong but bad for people. I don’t pretend like I know god isn’t real. I can’t know.

You know... It's been a rough time because I'am going through religion crisis. Now, I'am really confused with me and my surroundings.
Well I certainly agree that religion is very toxic in many ways, but it can help some people. For example me: when I used to believe in god (which was not that long ago) and even fear him, I would not even think about some things. But now that I really started to become skeptical about religions and gods, I started questioning my morals. Well I will be honest... When I would live by ,,god's rules'' killing other being for me would be an unacceptable thing, even on accident. But now... I don't really see a problem in it and I'am not saying that is acceptable, but if I or someone else killed someone I wouldn't see it as that of a bad thing as I would in the past. And these things that i am saying here, really pulls some questions in me: Am I a terrible person? Am I dangerous to this society?
So these are my thoughts. I would agree with you that religion is bad for people, but sometimes it can restrict people from doing something really bad.
And I'am terribly sorry if my English is ,,broken'', I think you can understand that English is not my first language, but I hope you get my point.

            • The problem with the religious and morality to me is they are only being moral because god told them to. And god will punish them if they aren’t. But morality has nothing to do with god. Your no less moral now then you were when you believed the only difference is now your more honest about it. It all depends on where you were born how you are raised and what time period you were born into when it comes to morality. If your born in Saudi Arabia your morality is going to be different than if you were born in America. And America today has different morals vs 1788 America.

For a Russian speaker, your English is very good.

I could only find these minor things.
              *my surroundings and myself.
              *example when
              *I'm
              *"god's rules''
              *"broken"

Don't even worry. You learned English well.

I don’t believe in a specific god or follow a specific religion however everything is so perfectly aligned the sun is in perfect position to provide heat but not burn us alive. Alongside everything else water, oxygen etc. Coincidence? I think not something or someone must of done it.

    • That’s the watchmaker fallacy. And all it really does is make a bigger problem. If this universe is so complex that it needs a god to have made it. Then the god would have to be even more complex. So who made god? Was there a super god that made the god? Was there a super super god that made the super god that made the super god? And it just goes on and on. It’s a fallacy that falls apart when you really think about it.

If there are 4000 different ways of orienting oneself around the question of whether and what kind of God exists, then doesn't that just make atheism the 4001st?

    • Atheism is not the same as a religion atheist lack belief in unproven things. That’s not to say that some atheist are not stupid and have stupid beliefs outside of not believing in god. Even if it was a religion and it’s not. What’s your point?

So atheists don't believe in parallel universes and Buddhists don't exist...?

        Comment Hidden ( show )
          -
        • Buddhist exists no one said they didn’t. My issue with the religious is that they think they know that their religion is right and everyone else has to fallow it. In some parts of the world atheist are executed simply because they are atheist. As for parallel universes some scientific circles back it some don’t. It’s something that I believe personally as well. But I don’t pretend it’s a fact to live by and people should not believe what I believe without any evidence for it. In short I can admit that I could be wrong. The religious can’t and oftentimes hurt people for disagreeing with them.

Some sweeping statements about a large proportion of the world's population there...
I know, why not get to know a 'religious' person in person - someone you genuinely like, and could call a friend? You might see that the binary distinction between 'religious' and non-religious' isn't as clear-cut as it appears.

As an ethical Agnostic, I applaud your recognition of the shades of gray in religious and philosophical thinking. I think religion in general helps society function smoothly, as well as help many of the faithful feel at peace with the universe.

If you will allow me to digress, I also think there is a danger in the internalization of religious thought when it causes denial of randomness. Randomness is real and can be checked mathematically by using Chi Square distributions. In the past, I often worked this problem on various engineering projects. Thankfully, there is nothing in mainstream religious doctrine that rules it out. But many of the more twit headed church goers lapse into circles of rationalizations driven by cognitive biases and a thirst to avoid critical thinking. This is truly yucky for a scientifically oriented retired professional like myself.

Thank you for allowing me to vent.

            • I do know religions people most of my family are religious and very few of my friends are atheist. But that doesn’t change the fact that atheist are looked at as bad people and sometimes killed for being atheist. And the religious people do that. I don’t mean to make it out like all religious people are bad I know that’s not the case at all.
