Yes, I do believe in God. However, I am certainly not a denier of scientific evidence. I'm not locked up in a closet, I'm well aware of evolution, historicity of the Bible, fossil records, etc. I'm a full believer in evolution and God. My faith didn't used to be very strong but I refused to call myself an atheist or agnostic. I kept holding onto the title of being a Christian even though I had very little faith. There was a part of me that felt confident God is not necessary in this world, in the process of evolution, and without clear proof, he must not exist. That's what I truly felt even though I kept praying and trying to have faith. Eventually I grew, turning over my thoughts, and coming to embrace my faith. I truly believe now, but one must remember that in the end, it's faith. You cannot prove nor disprove God, you can only have faith (but that's not to say history and human observation CAN'T help you with faith, it helped me). I'm proud to say I have faith and I embrace science.

Eventually, Darwin himself could no longer reconcile evolution with belief in God.

How do you know there is a God? There is no proof, well, if you're are a scientific person like me then you probably won't believe in this nonsense.

"God created Earth, God is protecting us from the Devil, God is in Heaven" Where do people get these conclusions from, seriously now. I don't mean to bring the wrath of the religious but seriously. If you think about it and you've actually taken science class, you'll know how the Earth was created and what lies beyond the sky.

    1. Our star and planets(including Earth) were created when another star went supernova.
    2. If he really was protecting us, why are people still dying and why is our ecosystems disappearing? How is he protecting us?
    3. Is there such thing as Heaven or Hell? From what I know, what lies beyond the sky is an ozone layer and atmosphere that protects us space units (asteroids, comets, meteors) which come from SPACE. There isn't a hell below the Earth, but the Earth's core.

I have to say, if we should worship something/someone, it should be the Earth. The Earth provides us resources and factors that help us survive. It provides oxygen, which we need to breath and water for us to drink. (Other purposes included) It has layers of atmospheres to help protect us from space units. This, my friends, is a "God".

The Pope is the devil. Of course he rides around behind bullet proof glass.. that man ain't holy, shiiit. HE DEFENDS PEDOPHILES! think the dalai lama, who can walk down an alley alone humbly with no fear. Atheists take the easy way out because they don't understand so they're afraid of the truth. But alas, you all ride around behind paper thin lies. Tootles!

I don't believe in "THE God" that's written about in religious text, but I think there has to be something.

I believe in evolution and science, but I don't know what existed before the big bang. The big bang is usually explained by relativity and going backwards through time, but at the point of the big bang our mathematical concepts seem to break down (Unless we start talking some string theory). So what was there before that?

No religion just might equal the end of suffering and the start of world peace.
If we just loved a bit more, and opened up to something bigger than religion this world could be reborn.

    Religion serves 2 functions:

One, it is a Coping mechanism for those who need it to deal with the realities in life and the reality of mortality.

Two, it is a means of control by those who put themselves in power over a religions followers.

I believe in God. I also believe in the theory of evolution, and the big bang. I don't see science and theism as being mutually exclusive.

It may be a naive thought, but I always come back to thinking: what was there before the big bang? And who put it there to begin with? Where did the original matter come from? Maybe my human mind is too weak and I substitute God in when I don't have the answers. Or, maybe not...

Also, having God in my daily life really provides great benefits to me; peace, strength, humility, maybe even some wisdom.

Religion and God shouldn't be used in the same sentence IMO. Religion is pure garbage. God, as in the creative essence in all things and unconditional love? Yes i believe in God. God as in a guy that sits in a cloud and watches and judges everything you do? No. Religion and the bible were created to systematically control mankind through fear of his afterlife destiny. WHat better way to keep someone under control than to promise him eternal pain and suffering if he steps out of line with the church.

When i was younger, i used to go to church all the time with my family. I hated it, with a passion. I still do not go to church, but am very spiritual. I am catholic, because my family is catholic, but I wouldn't say i follow the catholic religion. I do pray everynight, and I do look to God for guidance, because this life would be a terrible life if we didn't have anything to believe in. I don't think you have to go to church to have faith in a higher power.

I don't believe in the "GOD" from religion and the bible, but I believe in a higher power.
If there is some sort of god, s/he definitely isn't the one from the Bible. If there is some sort of god, I don't think s/he ever interacts with us or our planet. S/he just observed the planet (probably along with whatever other planets are out there) for billions of years, watching how everything would evolve and come out.

...And then humans evolved, and started thinking we were superior to other animals and nature... and now "GOD" is face-palming him/herself.

To paperflower, who is obviously in pain and who has known suffering: Perhaps these words will help you...

    No rack can torture me,
    My soul's at liberty.
    Behind this mortal bone
    There knits a bolder one

    You cannot prick with saw,
    Nor rend with scymitar.
    Two bodies therefore be;
Bind one, and one will flee.

    The eagle of his nest
    No easier divest
    And gain the sky,
    Than mayest thou,

    Except thyself may be
    Thine enemy;
    Captivity is consciousness,
    So's liberty.

I suppose people embrace various religious doctrines bc they are like clokes one dons to connect with others who share similar atitudes, beliefs, experiences in/of the mystical realm. Religious doctrine has its place. Example, it is difficult to support a moral stance in the face of attack from someone who is immoral/amoral without standing on some religious ground. However, real belief in any god comes, in large part, from the ability to truely love. What one recognizes as god in any past/present culture is that part of ourselves that is capable of complete, pure love. And, of course, if love is your guide and motivation, miracles can happen. So, yes...there is God...there he/she is.. deep within you. Take a closer look around you and you will see God in many.

religion is absolutely pointless. its a primitive way of thinking and was only thought up because people needed a means of explaining things they had no explanation for and as a way of coping with bad things that happen. there is no such thing as god. or at least no such thing as the god religions have tried to make us believe. there could be something out there but humans are just so damn insignificant in the universe that he/she/it does not make itself known. the faith people have in religion is the worst thing that has happened to this world. look at all the political and social consequences: women are pretty much seen as inferior in every religion and that damn israeli-palestinian war will never end! i respect people who are religious but i also feel sorry for them.

  • I'm very intrested in the fact that people who do belive in god can't think of proof so they say 'Give him a chance'.Well,my friends,I have been waiting 15 years, threw depression, self harm and rape.Where is god?In your imagination, thats where.

And if anything good happens, its not God.Its just order.

I don't believe in god and I never have.
I don't see why we would even need a creator to explain things, I think it's pretty clear that the big bang wasn't creating something from nothing. Something physical has to have always existed and I think we should work on finding out how this works rather than blindly believing a comforting and straightforward answer of "god did it".
This whole concept of an almighty and eternal creator is just flawed and I can't understand why people actually believe it. Though I think religion is completely useless in explaining how the universe works, I do respect people who don't share my ideas. You can't know anything for sure, so discrimination against believers is nonsense.

I was born an athiest; when i spoke of religion to my father, i expressed a total lack of belief towards it-unbeknownst to me, several years later, he revealed to me that he also was one.I am 1000000000000000000000000% sure there is no god.Where does he fit into the equation?Miracles don't happen, and nearly everything can be explained. The bible is just the remenant of an old brainwashing trap used negativly by the manipulation of overlords and of the such eons ago.The book was never intended to cause harm...it makes for a good story, but when will people just grow up and face reality? Oh, and those who claim they "speak" to god earn a stupid-approved stamp from me ;)I don't hate religous people, i just hate religion.amen.

I don't know...do you think humans are incapable of treating life with love instead of destroying it?
Maybe religion has actually indoctrinated EVERYONE regardless of their beliefs--to think that we as humans could not possibly have a moral compass without some sort of religion to tell us what is right or wrong.
I'd like to think that our true freedom WOULDN'T turn us into uncaring, selfish people but that it would connect us and we wouldn't hurt other life as it's an extension of ourselves.
Besides, so many of us are already uncaring and selfish so this method to life apparently isn't working too well anyway.
