yes, but not in the same way people would think of god in the christian way.
I used to be like you, I knew there was *something* up there, but I thought it was this "thing" that resides over us. But now, I'm Christian, but then again there are other people that don't know what's in my mind.
The etymology of the word "god" can be traced back to the root-word "voice". I do believe that the big bang was a drum-roll prepping for a soulful space opera burning to be sung. Who the fat bitch is that's tickling the multidimensional vocal strings, I don't know.
Two things I know about her though...
1. I can look in the mirror, on the street, at a flower, and in the night sky and see her reflection.
2. She's completely impossible. That's why we like her so...
No, I don't believe in God. I have my own opinions on "God" and why people believe in "God", however I do not like to bash people's beliefs, so I respect everyone's beliefs no matter what they believe in. At the end of the day I think "God" was made up/created by someone who wanted to give hope to people. For example, when your down, who to you turn to? When you die, what can you look forward to? Anyways, I hope I didn't hurt anybody with this comment. Just stating my opinion.
I believe some people want god to exist as an illusion,a mass delusion,so they can get away with things, and blame their fuck ups on an higher power, basically I believe that God is an excuse.
I believe that believing in god makes the justifications of whoever believes in it believable even if they really are unbelievably ridiculous and irrational.
I believe that god is a way to comfort people who still think things need to be under total control, which is another illusion, and even if achieved would not necessarily raise the chances of survival of the whole human kind,in order to feel safe and protected.
I believe that someone made the myth of god up,so he could try becoming one.
You know, there are a ton of polls like this. You can just type the question in the search bar, you don't need to make your own.
I think the idea of God is a little absurd. Very absurd when it comes to the people that take it too far and the majority of their life revolves around church, etc. Personally, I don't believe in God. I do though, take joy in life. Plants, animals, life. I think that all living things return to the earth when they die. I believe in the circle of life. Like in The Lion King, yes. =]
Yes: but not the Christian/Jewish/Muslim god, or god of any extant religion for that matter. God as perceived by the Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza: in essence, that the entire universe IS God. Omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient: all facets that are present both in anyone's concept of God and everyone's concept of the universe.
I'm also open to the possibility that this universe is a computer simulation (read Wikipedia article: Simulism) and that whoever programmed it could be called "God".
See, Spinoza's god is an excellent scientific verification (sort of) for the existence of god...in the same way the cycle of carbon-based life is an excellent scientific verification of the existence of reincarnation. Yes...your cremated great grandmother is part of the condoms you wear when you fuck your significant other...and the coffee mug you drink out of, and so on and so forth...
Problem is, Spinoza's god is theoretically understandable, leading a lot of people to jump the gun and say they know everything about "god", even though they don't. This is why (i think) people still cling to intangible gods. Gods of the mind that are ephemeral need to be recreated and reaffirmed every day. The energy expenditure of that kind of creation makes for a personal (dare we say, jealous?) relationship that fuels a personal sense of self worth and community worthiness. I think these models for regulating the ego have been misappropriated (hence an athiest's call for the destruction of false ideology).
I believe in God.In my family we have been Christians for generations. He loves and cherishes us all.
I've just accepted that I will never know. I just try to live my life the best I, humble, considerate, kind and productively. If I can do that then why worry about god? Surely if there is a god then he will see you lived a good life and so treat you well in the afterlife, If there is no god then I'll be satisfied that I tried lived my life to the best of my ability.
How is it possible to accept one religion to be correct above all others? Because "it is written?" Rubbish!
Undecided!
I thought thier would be alot of hateful responses on this I seen other things with simalar questions and poeple are insulting each other on both ends . I put yes
"Gods" were made up by humans to
1) explain what could not be explained,
2) a form of controlling others (religions are social institutions), and
3) as someone already pointed out, used to justify behaviour or abdicate responsibility for one's own actions because a "devil made me do it" and "Jesus forgives" means one can offend endlessly and never change one's behaviour in a meaningful way.
Folks have spiritual experiences every single day, but religions aren't needed for that.
Even asking if one "believes in god" assumes that one is monotheistic, and for the majority of humans historically, polytheism was the norm.
The conspiracy theorists might be "out there," but they have developed an interesting idea regarding the existence of "gods." What if the "gods" in ancient human history were nothing more then aliens who came into contact with primitive humans, and from that time till now, the story has, as it always does, change with each retelling? What if the Buddha was an alien who hung out on earth and was nice to humans and taught them things? What if Shiva and all the blue deities in India weren't entirely made up by early humans, and aliens who controlled humans and set themselves up as "gods," and then left for some reason?
I can imagine the collective gasp from the leaders of the organized religions if that ever turned out to be true, LOL!
By the way, are you saying God in a Christian sense or God as in their is a being above us, but not necessarily Christian? (I'm Christian, by the way).
I believe god is an imaginery friend for adults. People who are perhaps afraid of facing the problems or like to keep their mind at ease with inevitable situations believe in god. Something bad happens and "its god´s will" So there is always a mighty reason and you take what you are given. I prefer to believe that god doesnt exist, purely because, well one is that it has never been proven so till then i will stay mutual and two because i can face the fact that when someone dies or a hurricane hits or whatever it may be, it is because it is nothing more nothing less. I am not afraid of dying, I can accept that when I die I have finished, I am however afraid of the way I will die. If you believe in God then great if you dont, then great. It doesnt matter.
How enticing- the majority of us don't believe. (based on le poll, obviously)

I believe in God but I'm not religious and I don't go to church. By the way different religions and cultures believe in different Gods and have a different perception of what/who God is so, you should be more clear.
Yes,very much so... I'm just disappointed in MOST of people who say "yes" also
