Yes they exist, but who they are and what they do is entirely exaggerated.
People should be more concerned with what's clearly in their face- the top 1% taking 40% of the U.S. wealth while everybody below the bottom 20% scrapes for the remaining 7% like a bunch of cockroaches-- Why doesn't anybody talk about that?? Oh that's right- because it's real and nobody wants to face reality. Instead we'll just stick our head in the clouds and wonder about "Illuminati and the free-mason bears".

Factually, I don't think there's a super powerful group named "the Illuminati". They would have to be both the most ingenious organization, and also the dumbest at the same time. I believe they existed, but they disbanded. If they didn't disband then I do not think they are so powerful and they are failing badly, unlike how conspiracy theorists say that they are controlling everyone and succeeding.

I agree, especially with the last part. I've always felt like it was sort of just a way for those people to feel good about themselves, for discovering some sort of "secret", like they're so enlightened or something, although maybe not.
It also makes me feel like those people don't take actual politics very seriously. Although, in all fairness, I don't really understand it. But if they're the one's who are supposedly related to that whole "New World Order" thing, then anyone who believes that can sod off, which includes a lot of my family:S. It's bollocks.

I think anyone who even has a vague idea about how politics works sees that the illuminati probably doesn't exist. Believing in those sort of conspiracy theories often stems from not feeling in any control of the world around you, so you believe there are invisible, hostile agents which control everything. It's paranoia :P
I agree with you. It reminds me of the whole Kony 2012 thing, where everyone started acting like they were special and enlightened because they knew something that used to be obscure knowledge. They didn't know that everyone else knew it too, and by spreading it so religiously they were actually making themselves look like drones and mindless fanatics. People who believe in the illuminati seem the same way to me.
