Do you pray, and if so, how? does it work?
I do. Just through thought. Didnt think that I would have to physically say it for God to hear me given that hes omniscient thus know what I'm about to say.
I agree with JellyBean. I don’t think that there’s any deity that hears your prayers but you can contemplate your faults, appreciate your blessings, and change youself for the better with prayer.
Kierkegaard always maintained that prayer just changes the person who makes it. I figure that's about as good as it gets.
I don't. I'm an atheist but my thoughts have changed about it. I don't believe in prayers now but whenever someone says that he'll think about me in their prayers I just translate it into, "I'm wishing you well and may good things come into your life." I no longer tell them that I do not believe in god or that I do not follow any religion.
I live in a country where people often say this.
I do. There are many times my prayers have been answered. I know some people might feel that is mere coincidence, but I believe there's more to it than that, personally.
As for how it works, I'm not sure I can answer that. Of course, not every prayer gets answered in the way we are hoping for, unfortunately (though in some cases, the results may turn out to be what you needed rather than what you wanted, though sometimes unfortunately things just don't turn out how we'd like for them to), but some do, and in my opinion it is worth praying for. I like to thank God for the blessings in my life, and ask that He protect what is dear to me and for whatever else is on my mind, such as guidance through a personal issue, comfort for a grieving or otherwise distressed friend, etc. Anything after that is in God's hands and is up to him. I find that this personally brings me comfort, and also helps me feel more at peace with the fact that there are some things I have no control over and I shouldn't incessantly worry about them when it does no good. It gives me hope in trying times and I also feel that if there's nothing more I can do for those going through hard times in their lives, I can at least pray for them.
As an agonstic the cosmic universe has unusually been receptive to my prayers... like uncanny levels of good fortune. If luck doesnt exist as an inborn value something has to be going on. Because I have been too lucky.
Like pick up a 20 dollar bill twice in a day kind of lucky.
No, but to each their own. I do think praying can be good for you though, when you pray to give thanks for all the good things that have happened to you that day. It's good for your mental health since it makes you focus on the positives rather than dwelling on the negatives, and it can give you a more optimistic attitude. That's why each night I always try to think back on the day and point out all the good things that have happened, even if they're just little things (while ignoring any bad things).
Yes. But I don't expect God to do what I want, except if it fits in with what he wants/has got planned. We all know at the very least that the laws of physics are an intricate system of interactions and reactions that condition each other and don't generally change. In light of this it astounds me that people wouldn't assume that God already has plans, if he is in charge of all that. For God to arrange something so intricate and law-governed in the way we want just because we want him to (especially when we neither like him nor humour him) is a big deal. I mean, how presumptuous can you get? And yet, he does it.
If a cat can refuse to do what you want, though you feed it and house it and cuddle it and treat its health problems and know what's best for it, then why should an Almighty Creator God? I mean, what do people imagine God to be?
yeah I sure do, I talk to God everyday I never forget to do it. Just to be clear praying for me is not just asking God to do anything I want or need it's also about talking to God and thanking God for giving me life and I try my best to include God in everything I tell God my fears and worries and how I feel about things and to guide me in anything. Now back to your question yes I believe it 100%
