Religion is a terrible thing. Believing in a god is fine, but when people start to think they know what god likes and what he doesn't like, that's when people start carrying out some pretty horrible actions.
I think religion has done nothing but hinder our growth. Look at all the times that great minds were punished or even killed because they had brilliant and highly advanced ideas that went against doctrine.
Morals do not come from religion, they come from people. The "golden rule" is not a religious concept. It is the most basic social rule to follow in order to keep the human species alive.
On the contrary. Just take a look at the Dark Ages, for 'Christ's' sake.
I chose the "Religion is outdated" option because it was closest to what I actually believe. While religion isn't a part of my life and I don't feel it helps me personally, that doesn't mean that I think everyone should believe what I do. I know that many people consider their faith a huge part of their lives and I completely respect that.
Well this is a narrow poll... Some other options are in order here =/
Saying 'Religion is outdated' comes off as offensive... And the options do not actually apply to the question
Whoever calls any religious person a retard, I would approve of people who do their business and religious people who stay out of your face.
I mean changing etc of incorrect perception of the physically real, I don't mean changing the physically real, and subjective realities are somewhat beyond the subjective reality of a deity. All I understand is that selfishness for instance is subjective whereas eating, spending money etc is objective, and no religion is that rational. Plato's one complains of a terrible world, but hospitals, charity, justice, the laws of the world, and social skills are more wonderful than the "ideal" reality of Plato where we'll all be dead, not very nice. So earth, the beautiful creature with green fur (a sphere with grass on it) would be better than Plato's reality, since we hate dying.
In my opinion, religious people think they're so innocent. If one Greek God-worshipper (Plato) wasn't too innocent because of his God sect, regarded as heresy, then the 'facts' of religion is "God is real" is your opinion, but it takes more optimism and justice than that to be religiously good. Some secular morals are necessary, simple religion can't possible be justice but with hard work and some secularisation, which is difficult, we can live in peace and be truer than the peace of religion itself. I hate to go on like a pork chop, but, conventional religious thinking isn't the brains to know, nor is it the dying with dignity or the tranquility we have hoped for. To conclude, most religious people never change the 'truth', I say it, if not real truth, must be changed, unlike most religious people I prefer to spend years changing, correcting, and researching the physically real, plus subjective realities we all know exist, like feelings and beliefs.
religion is outdated im meen sure i belive in something but i dont want to be tied down to something i dont belieave a true satanist "which i am not" doesnt really worship the devil they just beilve in takeing the world by the horns "excuse the pun" i take parts of all religion and use them to my will im agnostic im not any one religion
Pure religion is not bad, it is just when people skew it up, and try to make it selfish for one reason or another (hint, hint, people who make money for THEMSELVES) when the religion is ruined because the leader, or too any followers are corrupt.
That being said, religion is a huge part of almost everyone in my neighborhood's life, so you cannot say it is outdated (we live in the second largest city in arizona), and in my city also.
You have 2 options:
1) Don't believe in God. If he doesn't exist nothing happens, but he if does you go to hell.
2) Believe in God. If he doesn't exist nothing happens, but if he does you go to heaven.
Your choice.
Believeing in god isn't a "choice", you complete and utter fucktard. If you came to the conclusion that you do not believe, through some thought, then saying "you do believe" to appease the possibility of there being a god is LIEING and NOT true faith.
Also, I don't believe we used god to "advance", in fact we devolved in culture and science when belief on god was strongest-the Dark Ages.
Religion has both negative and positive aspects. A lot of wars have been fought over it, but some religious principles DO make us better people if we live by them - like the famous Golden Rule for instance.
