How can one have an intelligent conversation with someone who is either so ignorant as to not know proper spelling at the very least, or doesn't have enough self respect to not want to seem to be an idiot.
And this "text speak" crap, now don't get me started on that lazy ass form of miscommunication.

Ugh, I know. The text speak is the worst to me. It's like, there are only a few more letters to type before you get to the actual word, why don't you just type them!! I promise it's not that time consuming. And when the letter count is the same, but with oddly placed numbers ...

People would describe me as laid-back and easy going, but I must agree with you here 100%.

I believe it's pretty apparent when the person writing is not writing in their native language, or is just ignorant. I have to communicate in several languages, to get information and service on some of the equipment aboard the boat, and there are plenty of excellent, free, translation sites available on the web.
But those English language posters who can't even use a spell checker are the ones that amaze me. Who in their right mind would want to seem so ignorant as to misspell the simple words, so often misspelled on here? I'd be so embarrassed. Grammar is a bit harder; one would actually have to have paid attention in a few classes at school to have some comprehension of the principles.
If even an old shit like myself, nearly 50 years out of high school, can manage to make himself understood by most, then all you young people still in or fresh out of school, should be able to communicate with ease.

That only makes you human, not ignorant.

Somewhat annoyed. It doesn't happen so much anymore, but when I was in my late teens early 20's and I was messaging girls around my age, many would reply in textspeak and it was a real turnoff. I felt like I was witnessing the death of the English language at times.

omg lyk dey wud spk lyk dis n it wud annoy me n i actually h8ed it a bit.

SPELLING? Yes. "Lyk" and "wud" are terrible. And also kind of outdated imho. That's how people in the 2000s spoke.

GRAMMAR? Sorry I don't give a single fuck. If you consider that most of our colloquioal speech is not "gramatically correct" to begin with, it's really quite silly and elitist to insist that standard should apply to texting. There are ways in which "text speak" conveys meaning that normal words can't. Linguistics, man.

For me it depends more or less on the person. If i know that the other person isn't good in the language then its obvious for him to make mistakes so they don't really annoy me. but if I know that the other person knows the language well enough to avoid mistakes and is still making silly mistakes due to carelessness, it irritates me the most. Moreover, what annoys me more than that is the habit of people of using short forms even for simple words.

Depends how bad it is. If its readable I don't see the issue. If you are going to nitpick since they forgot a period in a long paragraph but wrote everything else right you are just being obnoxious.

If it's a few minor mistakes, no. If it makes the text unnecessarily difficult to read, yes.
