I give fake smiles all day long, half the time it's on accident.
Example,
Me: "Hey there Ted!"
Ted: "I found out I have cancer in my balls.."
Me: ":D"
There was a letter from many years ago, probably 20+ yrs at this point from a man who took a bus and had a long walk even after the bus ride to the Golden Gate Bridge to jump off. He purposely took a bus that let him off far enough away to give him many opportunities of interaction with people on the way.
His final, suicide letter was straight and to the point :
Going to the Golden Gate Bridge to jump off, if just one person smiles at me during my trip there I will call the whole thing off.
He ended up jumping.
Shows you the power of a smile.
This is a true story.
What is a "fake smile"? A smile when you are not happy? To me, a smile is merely a shape on a face, not a thing to be classified as fake or genuine.
I'm very giggly in social situations any way, so a lot of people think I'm "fake smiling" when I'm not.
Yes, I consider a fake smile as one when you are not truly happy. This is typical of me. Oftentimes, if I make eye contact with a (usually female) stranger I will smile on impulse. As soon as I pass them though, I go back to a blank face. I just wonder what's the point sometimes.
If you smile automatically, I wouldn't think of that as a "fake smile", just general niceness.
I think that true smiles do not require any effort though, they just happen as a result of a person being happy. What I am doing is just a sort of formality. I am smiling, but actually I am not really happy, so it's not real. I do generally make an effort to be nice most of the time, but many times, I feel as though my effort is not being appreciated. If it's not being appreciated, then what is the point. Why do I keep smiling at people.
I hate a fake smile or laugh.i never do it unless i mean it.people will get whatever at give them at that moment.i do like to do the overly exagerated wave though, its funny.alot of times i wont even reply or just shrug maybe do the head nod thing.
I work in customer service. If I didn't give hundreds of fake smiles everyday, I would be fired.
everyday. not for my job or for anything like that, just because some ppl need to be smiled at. im just the kind of person who doesnt see EVERYONE worth a real smile.
Occasionally, I will be having a good day and I will think of something very funny. When this happens, I can't help but smile about it, and the reactions I get are much different than the ones I get from my impulsive formal smiles that I normally give.
So glad to learn I'm not alone on this one. If I didn't smile--at work, in class, on campus grounds, on the T... I'd come off as a grouch. Gotta play along to get along. At least sometimes. My two-cents.
I don't, as I see no reason for it. I am a genuine person, and I find it hard to even smile or pretend I'm happy when I'm upset. But I guess that's just me.
Avril Lavigne is the queen of the fake smile. Her teeth might be showing but her face is falling and her eyes look pained all the while. I don't think she even tries to feel it.
When I see fake smiles it makes me laugh that much harder. It's funny as hell, like an Air Kiss.

I love that face
I am an expert at both lying and faking emotions
I almost always give fake smiles, I guess ppl expect me to be a happy person and I don't want to disappoint them :p
Yes, there are some situations that call for a courtesy smile (especially when you're female). Usually when I get a fake smile from someone, it's almost a reflex for me to mimic it as well. I don't do it with people I'm close to, though.
