Do you have a habit of leaving your door unlocked?

My mom has this really bad habit of leaving her door unlocked. I keep telling her to lock her door but she continues to be stubborn and refuses to take my advice seriously.

One day I decided to scare the pants off her. I dressed up as a burglar, sneaked into the house while she cooked dinner and scared her half to death.

She was so angry with me for the first 10 minutes, but later on we laughed. From that point on, my mom always locks the door and she even thanked me by saying, " I'm glad you scared the hell out of me. Who knows what would've happened if you we're a real burglar ".

Do you have a habit of leaving your door unlocked?

The door is always locked, unless my mother is outside mowing with the electric lawn mower.

Growing up we sometimes left the back door unlocked for breeze but that was in the 70s and early 80s when it wasn't that bad where we lived.

However since I've had apartments in odd areas I have the habit of locking the door... kinda.

I mean if we're right there by the door that's one thing. But if we're going to be elsewhere - or sleep - it gets locked.

I don't live in fear. A burglar who wants in will not be stopped by a lock. Sometimes I lock it. But I don't obsess over it. My house is safe. The only time anything has been stolen from me was due to a friend, not the stranger lurking in the darkness. But my neighborhood is a bit odd. I have a guard dog in the guise of a homeless man who watches over us.

No dog, just a homeless man whose presence keeps people away. He's a good man. A veteran who has been waiting three years for his paperwork to be processed.

I only lock it before I go to sleep. No reason not to.

Where I live I can safely leave everything unlocked and not have to worry. Anyone wants to try and change that they can have a talk with my 45 loaded with hollow points or the 12 gauge loaded with buck shot. Its their choice.

Never lock it unless I'm leaving for an extended period of time. I love being able to live like that.

After a few experiences with crazies I always lock my door these days.

One day a middle aged lady (who probably wasn't in her right mind) just walked into my house and made herself at home on my lounge suite and watched TV. At least she was a pleasant / harmless crazy person unlike a few others. Always lock my doors now.

LOL I always lock all the doors OMG one time all the way through the night I woke up at 3 AM too see the door open and unlocked and NO one was awake, no one was outside. I'm just glad no creepy person came into our home. X D

Grew up never locking the door - we had a scary looking german shepherd type dog that would happily piss herself in terror then run away and hide if anyone came in :)

Living in an apartment now, I only lock the normal lock, not the deadlock, unless I'm going away for overnight or more. It's supposedly a security block, but no one bothers to shut the security gate properly anyway.

Grew up and currently live in an apartment complex, so locking the door is as much of a reflex as looking through the peep hole before opening the door or answering to a guest or strangers. Admittedly a lot of violent crime is rampant in my neighborhood. It has become second nature to me to be this cautious, so people who don't lock the door surprise me. LOL grew up in the 90's it must have been nice to grow up in safer times.

Always. It saves a lot of potential bother in just a couple of seconds. I don't really understand why you *wouldn't* lock it. It isn't like I live in a dangerous area (far from it), it is more because I don't understand the appeal of leaving it unlocked.

I've nothing they'd want to steal but I wouldn't want to be attacked. God only knows what some of the kids on drugs would do :o(
