I agree with ItDuz. Guns are illegal here so the only people who use them, use them to threaten the rest of us.
It's a bit like countries with nuclear weapons threatening countries that don't have them, and telling these countries they can't have them. That's the English model on an international scale.
The American model would be better. Allow the right to bear arms and thus give nukes to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea. Unless, of course, anyone has a problem with this.
And, yes, I'm being deliberately provocative to illustrate the point that neither banning arms or embracing them works particularly well. What works better is diplomacy. Notice how atomic weaponry was invented and moved on rapidly during WWII, moved on more slowly during the Cold War, and now during largely peacable times barely moves on at all?
If diplomacy had been practised a millennium ago, maybe we'd have no nuclear weapons, no guns, and perhaps not even longbows or clubs.
I think its stupid how the public arent alowed firearms. I mean basicly the people who would use guns for bad purposes find ways to get them anyway even when they are illegal to own basicly they are not letting innocent people to arm themselfes up against the criminals that will always be able to get them. I heard I think it was Texas that they are alowed firearms and that there is hardly any crime there. Who will try rob someone who has a gun? or break into a house of someone owning a gun?
lol, no crime in Texas?? That's a joke! Texas is a cesspool. You're allowed to own guns in the whole entire US.
Well I guess I stand corrected. I just think it would be safer if everyone was alowed to own a gun. Especially i the UK because people tend to be able to get guns anyway.
That's the problem when you ban all firearms. You're only banning the legal sales.
People still buy them illegally... especially since they know that most citizens won't be armed to defend against being attacked.
Plus the UK also had those knife-attack issues for a while too.
I agree with you.
Example: three thugs were robbing cyclists and joggers around my area for a while, one day they picked the wrong old man (whom they meant to rob and beat up). Grandpa shot two of them, the other ran off and one of them died but oh well, that's what you get for being a criminal who ambushes innocent people.
Point is, if grandpa didn't have the gun hed be dead.

I had ammo for sporting purposes once (modern pentathlon, summer/winter biathlon). Maybe, I should get me some ammo for possible self-defense purposes. I don't really go into places that resemble an American Somalia environment too much though. I know a lot of people who contend that guns should be outlawed. I'm of a more neutral leaning. Its not the licensed gun crowd doing the heinous criminal acts. People that want to hurt,maim,kill never look at the rule book first. They do it anyways. Its better to have neighbors with an arsenal of protective weapons, than none at all. We're not all martial arts ninjas.
Why didn't you throw in swords on the voting list? That's a weapon. Fencing? Dueling? Oh wait, that stuff takes SKILL. Sorry, its like classical piano. Only an elite few have such talents.
One more thought...Switzerland is a peaceful place. The citizen military crowd there all keep ammo on standby. No issues there.
I have 7 guns. 5 rifles, 1 shotgun and 1 pistol. I have a gun rack in my truck. I have about 1500 rounds if ammo which might sound like a lot but it's not. Ammo is in short supply these days.
I wish nobody had to have guns but...
My dad had them and my boyfriend just in case. This is a bad area and if someone breaks into my place, I have no qualms about shooting them I wouldn't try to kill them, maybe shoot them in the leg and kick them a few times for being a thieving dickwad. If they are breaking in, youre right to assume they mean you harm.
That said, keep guns away from children and unstable people. Its true that too often people end up either accidentally injured or a depressed person tries to off themselves.
This is probably really stupid of me but I have always felt safer with a knife than a gun. Even though my shooting skills are pretty good.
I'll probably buy one in 40 years when I retire in Estes Park. Damn mooses...

I picked "not interested," but actually I am interested. Just have never gotten around to buying one. Not really a priority.
I'm glad you can't own one in the UK because I would have shot myself around 17 years of age. I would have missed out on all the great things I have done in my life. Other people would have missed out on my help and love too. I now love being alive. In the US the majority of suicides are from shooting oneself. It's really sad to think that so many people could be living a good life if they had access to healthcare rather than access to a gun.
