Japanese cars are good if you don't know shit about cars. They last a long time if you don't mess with them. But if you are looking for power, performance, and some sexy ass looks then American all the way. You just gotta actually know whats going on in your car. Japanese models are like fucking Decepticons. If you try and work on it the majority of it will be either counterproductive or electronic work. I mean, you turbo charge a vtech and your gonna have to drop another 10k just to get the turbo charger to work correctly. You supercharge an American engine and it just works: no electronics, no exhaust issues, nothing. Jap cars are for teenagers who need a starter car to get them through college. American cars are for people who actually like cars.
Old toyotas can not be killed. But old chevys are really good too. I like both.
If I could have any car that is reasonably within reach, it would be an Acura.
Japanese cars are high in initial quality and life-long reliability. They are built with an over-arching zero-defects philosophy (most American companies, in contrast, until recently, just tried to minimize the number of defects and then hope to catch them...)
American cars (especially Fords) are getting better, though. Maybe Cadillacs, Mercuries or Lincolns.
German cars, although awesome-looking and driving (would LOVE a BMW) just aren't as good of a value as their Japanese competitors, especially when repair/maintenance costs are considered. VWs look great, but, at least in America, are not a bargain in comparison.
So true, my 13 year old camry soldiers on without a single problem. Though i cant say the same for Australian or American cars.
Japanese cars last longer for their value. I wish American car companies would figure that out.
I prefer German cars!
I've driven two american cars, four japanese cars and more than 10 european. I find that german cars are the best!
Though I'd love to have one of the new dodge avengers, I'd prefer a car that's gonna last longer. My corolla is a survivor. X3
GM made alot of shitty cars in the past, but there's still lots of good American cars
i like japanese cars, so does my mum, she is japanese and refused to buy a volvo or mercedes because it wasnt japanese. (im not sure if volovs are american)
My future car is a Mitsubishi Eclipse or Lancer sport, Subaru Impreza, Celica, or a volkswagen jetta.
I love Japanese car but right now unfortunately I am having trouble with my 04 Nissan Maxima's Transmission, anyone know how to make the dealership replace it for free.
I'm a bit of a fanatic of classic American cars, particularly the 1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite Convertible... *jizzes in pants* lol
Japanese models seem to consistently outlast their American counterparts. (Good thing the topic is about cars, otherwise that sentence would have seemed really perverted.)
From what I understand, both vehicle makes are made in North America, by North American workers. Then wouldn't making a decision about the two come down to which has the better design and which one has the most and the oldest models on the road? Can someone please do that research and then let everyone know who's the winner (I'm too lazy to do it myself). Then we can all make a decision based on logic instead of perceptions alone.
