Do you take your shoes off in your home?

Do you take your shoes off indoors in your home? I was brought up that way and always leave my shoes near the door. I think it's hygienic and it puts less wear and tear on carpets and floors. At someone else's house I do the same - for the same reasons but I also think it's polite when you're in someone else's space.

Sometimes on adverts people are sitting on their sofas or even their beds (!) with shoes on. I don't get it. I know they're just ads, but still. Personally, I also wouldn't be comfortable walking around my own home in shoes. I wouldn't feel very at home. Slippers yes, but not outdoor shoes.

So I'm interested to know what others do. Please vote, thanks : )

    Always.

That's the first thing I do when I get to my room. I hate wearing shoes at home. I'm usually barefoot, or wearing socks if it's cold.

Yep, I take them off. It wasn't necessarily a thing I was raised with - our family wore shoes indoors on occasion. However, most of my friends are Asian, and it's a cultural thing for them, so I got used to that quickly. That, and working for Asian families, I never wear shoes at work indoors.

It's also better for your feet.

I don't have feet that are good for walking barefoot or in socks. In fact, a lot of people have this, and podiatrists will suggest wearing shoes with supportive soles all the time. My dad has similar feet, and he actually had rules when I was a kid - no bare feet in the house - slippers at least all the time. So I'm the opposite from the OP. I think bare feet on carpeting is gross - think of the sweat and oil and dirt you are greasing the carpet with.

I don't take them off right by the entrance door to the house but they don't stay on as soon as I enter my room. I'm just sitting there so there isn't a need to keep shoes on after that, plus they can potentially get sweaty like that for no reason. Even if its a cultural thing for some, I'm sure most kick off the shoes anyway, its not like your floors are filled with grass blades or some dirt road with rocks and it just feels better.

We take our shoes off as do our visitors. If you want t wear footwear in the house wear slippers.

I think it's a weird habit. Something only neatfreaks do. Leaving shoes by the door I mean. I obviously don't wear shoes to bed or anything, that would be even weirder.

I'm guessing the poster doesn't live somewhere COLD?
I doubt most people today could afford to heat a home, in winter, enough to go around barefoot.
My girl friend is an ex-equestrian and we joke that living on the boat has ruined her; she hates wearing shoes now. How will she ever ride horses again, if she won't put on a pair of boots (required in competitions)?

Hell yes, if you can't do it in your home then where can you?

Most of the time. If I know I'm going out again soon I keep them on, but otherwise they come off unless I forget about them.

I don't wear shoes at home because it's not in our culture. We usually wear flip flops home.
