No people do not worship the younger generation. However most people are smart enough to realize that we need children to grow up and become productive members of society. So losing a lot of children is a very bad thing. This is how population works. If too many children die that means the population might drop and eventually the species will die out. So if suddenly everyone killed all the children in the world we are pretty screwed unless we make more children.

Americans as a culture, worship money, beauty and success. We have little tolerance for failure, take little or no personal responsibility for our actions and always root for the underdog, though rarely respect him.
We love TV shows like Survivor, Big Brother and Judge Judy, which rarely show people at their best.
But not one of your choices above makes any sense, unless you consider Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and all the others that were the innovators of the new tech to be of the "young generation". If IIN is a sample of the "young generation" then at least half of you have so many "mental disorders" that you will not be able to function in modern society at all. Certainly you do not have any "ability to solve problems in new arenas", "new ideas" nor are you "superior in their ability in technology", hell, more than half of you can't even get a girl/boy friend or even a date.

  • In the workplace, I can see it being an issue. A lot of older folks haven't got a clue when it comes to current technology and they aren't always open to learning it either. Having a rigid attitude about their wisdom does set them back. No matter what their age, they need to be *willing* to learn and adapt. So, I do believe technology is an advantage for younger people, for sure.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe western culture "worships" youth per se. However, a lot of emphasis is put on physical vitality, which is fairly apparent in popular media today. And many people have a difficult time growing old (physically) with grace because of the value placed on physical appearance in general. Nobody wants to become obsolete due to their appearance.

There does appear to be a growing disrespect for senior citizens; that if they are no longer contributing to the labour force, they've outstayed their welcome on this planet. It seems like a scary time for anyone older than 65 these days.
