Hehe I find it quite intresting that atheists always attack the christian version of God when giving reasons why there is no God.No mention of Allah,or budhaa etc just the christian God.
That said people do not understand what faith means.Faith means believing in something that cannot be measured, seen, touched or forseen.Almost everything in life requires faith.Easiest example is when u travel long distances, esp by plane.U always assume you will make it to ur destination safe n sound even though planes have been falling out of the sky like raindrops recently. That assumption is a version of faith because you have absolutely no way of telling you will arrive .
As for those people who are saying God should give them a sign 1 qn. Who the hell do you think you are out 7b people for God to give a hoot. Its like sm1 saying there is no such thing as a sun cause its night. It is not for God to give you a sign it is for me to show i have faith...despite all these atheist bruhs around me hehehe.
Almost forgot, this arguement bout religion causing war is true but(and i maybe wrong here wasnt a history buff) weren't world war 1 and 2 caused by greedy ass men.Nothing whatsoever to do with God.
p.s I believe in God. cheers

I would like to believe there is a god, but I'm honestly clueless. My family was religious, but I've come to realize religion is nothing but a control system. When I think about our existence it leads me to believe there must be a god, but I've called out to God multiple times and asked God to show me a sign, something, anything to show me that God was there and real. Not once did that motherfucker answer my call in even the slightest way, so I seriously doubt there is a god!

The concept of god was never meant to be a tangible thing that you can touch. Kind of like love. It is an idea. And it is as real as any other idea out there.

Agnostics believe that Gods existence can be neither proven nor disproven. It takes a leap of faith to be a theist or an atheist.

No, faith is required to believe in something when there is no proof that such a thing exists. Faith is not required to not believe in something for which there is no proof.

There is no way to prove that Santa Clause does not exist. But it does not require faith to believe that he does not exist, because there is no proof that he exists and therefore no reason to believe that he does in the first place. Now if you do believe in Santa Clause, despite the lack of any evidence pointing to his existence, that would be faith.

It is the same with god.

Sounds like you have "null hypothesis" confused with proof by negation.

I am not confused by anything. To me, it does not take faith to not believe something I have no reason to believe in the first place.

Right now, in your living room, there could be thousands of invisible and completely undetectable aliens from planets all over the galaxy. You have no way of proving they are not there. But if you believe they aren't, and you want to call your reason for not believing "faith", go right ahead. I wouldn't use that word myself.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
    • Ellenna

No it doesn't take any "leap of faith" to be an atheist

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I don't know. I'm on the line between agnostic and athiest.

However I have to many questions on the issue of God. Like the Lucifer thing. If God is all knowing and controls everything then he created Lucifer, one of his sons, only to lead him in to evil and to banhish him from his home simply because God made it that Lucifer would do what he done and then punish him for what God made him do.

Abusive father to say the least. Lol.

    Dimethyltryptamine.
    Personal experience.
    Extensive inner searching.

I am delusional. Wrong. OR. I am right. Or partially right.

I segregate "religion". I segregate agnosticism.
To form: God is not real versus God is real.

"Atheism" (God is not real) vs "Theism"/"Deism"

I do not have any faith in god. I do not believe in god.
I am not religious. I do not practice any rituals. Of a religious, or spiritual nature. I don't really even celebrate easter or christmas.

    I know god is real.

This is the conclusion I must draw.

I know god is real. Based on experience.

OR I am utterly wrong and deluded.
Atheism isn't an adequate conclusion to draw.
It is ill-Discernment. Because if I was to, be an atheist.
It would conflict, and not correlate, with all I've experienced. Learned. Read. Seen. Heard. Watched.

I have done my best to discern and assimilate.

Searching to know god is real, is too hard, for most people.

Please take what I have written with a grain of salt.
Feel free to be as skeptical as you like.

And once you've got the message. Hang up the phone.

One has to consider the existence of this Universe and everything that there in it as well as all the multiple Universes to consider the existence of a Creator. It is somewhat of a human concept to think that we are made exactly in the image of the Creator. From what I have learnt we are only individualized parts of the Creator's Conscious Awareness but we also have free will choices and our actions have consequences whether good or bad.

Honestly, i have no clue. My parents and a majority of my father's side of the family, are all religious fanatics. I already realized at a very young age, that religion is bullshit, and i was walking proof of that. If there is a god who created the universe, i don't think he's some fucked up sociopath like all religions make him out to be. If he is real, I think he's already got his hands full, taking care of theoretical life, elsewhere in the universe. If there is no god, who the actual hell gives a shit?

That is quite subjective. The rules of the universe known by mankind are physics and chemistry. That being said, also adding that I'm a cosmopolitan, my personal opinion is that God is nothing but a word with a meaning. If you are smart enough, you will perceive that. But have faith nonetheless, you lose nothing by that.

Also when it comes to what god is, I know someone who believes that god is a mathematical equation based on the laws of our universe, so technically he see's himself as a mathematical thinker driven by science but he also believes in god, just a non traditional perception of god,

There are just so many variables

It's such a convoluted matter, it's not even worth discussing because it has already been so. Just think of the anarchy it would cause to have no religion and relying simply on human laws and it's code of moral and ethics, you need something a little more powerful to maintain peace. Even though it's the cause of many wars and deaths.

"Just think of the anarchy it would cause to have no religion and relying simply on human laws and it's code of moral and ethics,"

But relying on humans is how laws, codes, and morals have been created through out human history. Because all the religions of the world, and the doctrines within, are created my man. The only difference between a religious and a secular moral or law is the authority being claimed by the person who creates it

"you need something a little more powerful to maintain peace"

This is exactly the reason religions were created, and it is exactly the problem with them. Why is it better to believe that something is right because you are being scared into believing it is the "will of god", then for rational, thinking people to decide together what is right for their society? Why must we pretend these ideas have a divine source?

Religion was created as a way of maintaining power and control. When a Pharaoh or King claims that he is ordained by god, or professes to be god himself, it makes it easier maintain control of the people, and force the people to accept their will and laws. I would prefer not to be controlled by superstition.

Quite simply, if man was made by gawd in his image, then gawd must be a horribly viscous, sadistic, murderous, evil creature.
Following that thought, then why would anyone want to worship such an evil, horrid deity?
