Do you think it's harder to live as a boy or girl?

Say you could be on gender in the exact same circumstances, give or take a few because of different experiences like periods and such, but otherwise you have the same parents, same siblings, same occupation, etc. Imagine present society, not past or future.

It's harder to be a boy; I am a girl. 73
It's harder to be a boy; I am a boy. 361

It depends on the individual, not the gender.

Maybe I didn't make it clear in the question, but I meant YOUR life. Sorry I guess I made it seem more general than that.

Honestly, I think both genders have it rough, especially in high school.

For boys there is a social hierarchy in place, that determines how others see you. If you're the person having sex, then you're at the top of the pyramid. The problem is that during high school, jerks usually get the women and that's frustrating for guys who actually are nice. It's as if a guy has to be a jerk to be respected, unlike girls who are seen as good if nice. In high school, most guys have it rough because of every other guys desire to be superior than the other.

For women in high school, the unfairness and cruelty lies in the expectations placed on them. At that age women are peer pressured into exhibiting some behaviors that they might not want to do but will because they want acceptance, as opposed to men who want superiority. On top of the peer pressure to be sluts they also are expected to be beautiful at all times. Wear pounds of make up or you're not going to be socially accepted by your peers. Thing is that they're not looking good for the males, some are, they're really looking good for themselves. Women at that age are feisty and highly competitive which causes a lot of tension with the other girls. Which is probably why a lot of girls prefer hanging around guys, less drama.

I know that your question didn't particularly state during what age guys and girls have it worse, but I'm currently in high school and this is what I observe both genders lives to consists of. As I mentioned earlier, both genders have it bad in high school, but I'm hoping it won't be like that after we graduate.

Why have you said "boys" and then "women"? It's "boys" and "girls". There are no women that attend high school.

All social markers indicate that it is harder being a male...men are more likely to committ suicide, be victims of homicide, be drug addicts and alcoholics, die at work, go to prison, die in war and social violence...have mental illness...men have sex changes to become women 10times higher than women becoming men...men die sooner...more men are homeless..men have higher rates of all major diseases...heart attacks, stroke, cancer, etc...men have higher rates of poverty

It's harder to be a girl! There are double standards in the work environment, we get our periods AND we have to give birth!

Honestly, I think if somehow we could switch places, having fully assessed the other in the third person and not been hit with their pressures and expectations I think that men would be better at being women and vice versa. Witch is inconvenient. For instance, as a guy, one of the biggest problems is getting laid. For a girl: no problem, unless you are morbidly obese or something you are within 100 meters and 10 minutes of a fuck. So, to counter this, girls have come up with some kind of third dimension to sex, which no man has any understanding of. But if a girl became a guy, they could somewhat ironically become the world greatest womaniser. Indeed, a woman could right everything they always say is wrong with men. Now if I was a girl, I would be one hell of a slut. But that's how to get things done. A hot woman can get anything she wants with sex, and all I want more than anything else is sex, so it works out rather nicely. As for the negatives if being a woman, I have no intention of having kids, and if you really must, just adopt. As for periods... Well it's a mysterious world I have no intention of shedding light on, but it can't exactly be bad enough to cancel out having 24 hour access to a naked woman, a gift girls just take for granted. Then what are the perks of being a guy? Slightly more convenient peeing. It seems to be something that woman envy none the less. But in the real world, we are pressured into being on more or less level pegging.

Harder to be a guy, a shy guy more specifically. Guys always have to make the first move, so a shy guy is pretty much shit out of luck.

I'd say it's harder to be a boy, especially through high school.

Face it ladies, guys have a harder time getting laid than us. We need only apply, sometimes guys need detailed resumes unless they get lucky. I can't imagine having the sex drive I have and being born a guy. And for girls, being socially awkward is cute, especially if you're not fugly or anything.

I think it's harder to be a guy.

Girls have periods and have to give birth which is hard but for guys... the list goes on:

    Guys have to/are expected to:
    Ask the girl out.
    Propose.
Do all the work during intercourse.
Spend all our hard earned money on the girl.
    Deal with harsh banter.
    Deal with bad FIFA sessions.
    Deal with bad COD sessions.
    Premature Ejaculation.

    I could list more...

No offense guys but I personally think girls have it rougher. Girls have to go through periods every month. Dealing with pregnancy. Which makes going through life a hell of a lot harder. Girls and guys pretty much go through the same things except for the two things listed before.

  • BreeBees

Some men are faced with all of the horrible things listed, some women too,

But ALL women have to deal with their uterus bending twisting and cramping every month ( if not , birth controll causes some pretty horrible things too. Weight gain , mood swings , break outs, sickness etc..)

Women get paid less in the work force?
And when it comes to industries that are dominated by men (like the defence forces) it's more difficult. To handle, I mean.

I actually had to think about this one for a while. But here is my take on it.
It all depends on ones own personality: some might feel repressed under certain norms or ideals and others don't. Same goes for tolerance of pain for example: we cant tell if one specific person's experience of pain is the same of our own, it most likely isn't, and how we react to it is determined by our own personality traits. But the fact of the matter is that, even though ones personality surely have something to do with your gender, we have no way of telling how the gender implicates ones personality: surely gender isn't the only factor.
When we say "i would be better of as the other gender" or "i am better of as this gender", this "understanding" is build on a very vague understanding of how our personality is effected such factors. For example you might say: "i would be better of as a girl" but by this you assume your personality remains the same and therefore the experience of different things is the same. But like earlier stated, this isn't so: your personality would be affected by being the other gender, and as such your experience of different things would be altered. But again! gender isn't the only factor, so gender alone cant explain how your experience of norms and ideals or feelings such is pain is, in short:
We all experience things differently, and while this has something to do with our gender, that is far from the only factor.

I apologize in front if my spelling is incorrect, or some parts are tough to understand: english is my second language.

I found myself fantasizing about being a girl lately.
at least finding some schmuck to have sex with would have been way easier. But then again, it really wouldn't. not with this personality. Is there any drug, something making you feel like you are having an orgasm? cause if there is any I definitely want some. oh my god, this is one of my best ideas so far. A transgender nun. :)
Brian? Brian? Transgender nun. Make it so.
