Do you think schools in england put too much stress on students?

I am finding school EXTREMELY stressful, and I was wondering if schools in England put more pressure on students than schools is say, America? Also, do you think it is unnecessary pressure?

I don't know about comparing English schools to those in other countries, but it definitely varies from school to school!

I used to go to one of the big, flashy academies, where everything was new and technological, but the teachers did nothing. We were taught in groups of 60 and basically were left to colour stuff in... And this is at secondary school!

My new school is the exact opposite; we're put under a lot of pressure, possibly too much. They tend to push the 'high-achievers' or 'gifted and talented' kids stupidly hard and we have teachers saying to us "If you don't achieve X/Y/Z in the exam, you will end up working in ASDA!"

So yes, too much pressure at some schools, but not enough at others. I'd imagine it's largely the same in other countries.

Yeah definatly. I think there's too much emphasis on G.C.S.Es too as not all puipilos are academic but they could be very intelliegent in other ways. xx

I totally agree! They act as if GCSE's determine your entire future! I really don't think they do. It's A levels that do. GCSE's are more or less for the schools leaderboards. My school puts so much pressure on attendance as well as having regular assessments. It's too much!

In regards to attendance instead of using their bully boy tactics (sorry that's how I see it) to threaten parents with fines and inprisonment they should be trying to find out the reason behind why a child does not want to attend school and sorting out the issue. I am of course expecting to be flamed for this with the usual comments such as It's the parent's responsibility to ensure that their child attends school and that ia a very fair and valid comment. However it is not always as simple as that often parents have to leave their early due to working commitments. Also for arguments sake does a mother on her own with her son who is 6 foot tall get her son to go to school if he refuses to, if she could get thim to school she would be doing the school and social services jobs ect. And it's all very well and perhaps even admiral people saying I'd just drag them there but Parents are not allowed to touch their children thus taking away their control and discalpin of their children. I had a friend whose mum was a stay at home mum so therefore took her daughter to school each day well my friend would get in to school sign in the registar and then sneak back out so how was that her mum's fault? I will end this post by saying I have the very upppermost respect for my daughters teachers. xx

every country gives pupils lots of work, its normal:) England is known for providing better state education than America, but its more up to opinions.

Well, Im not from England and most the schools I went to were complete and utter krap . Most them were biest and favored certeien children over the others most the staff never cared what was going on with its students and basicly it was kids ruled kids thier was never any kindve structure and most the cares did not care if kids were beating each other . So overall all the schools I been too are krap so if 10 out of 11 is krap I have no faith in the school systems at all .

guys GCSE is not that stressful. although I don't blame u because u haven't faced anything harder before. just think wait mmm I don't have any good advice lol i suck :/.
let's use me as example. my older bro and sis failed HKCEE(equivalent to GCSE apparently) and they are both way smarter than me. when I was doing it it was so hard as well I was sure I wud fail too but we moved to England and I did the GCSE. it was so easy! I got 9 A-C & only 2Ds, and I DIDNT even revise!(other than homework). I even skipped year 9 when I moved here becuz students are put in class by age in England.
my point is, be glad that u r doing GCSE and not smth else even harder(like the f**kin HKCEE, which again is equivalent to GCSE by law -.-). just revise don't complain too much if u focus u'll surely pass :)

(from England) Personally I found the most stressful aspect of secondary school was my lack of self-discipline. I'd always leave things until the last minute, my attendance was poor by the end and I made things much more difficult for myself. I think had I been organised, I'd have found the whole thing relatively straight forward.

But it depends on the school. My school was a pretty good comprehensive. I know some schools expect students to take more exams, especially private / grammar schools, and impose a lot more study on students than is the basic standard. It also depends on how good at school you are - the better you are at the subjects you study, the less stressful the work will be. And of course how good the teachers are has an impact.

From what I've heard, the average secondary school in England isn't more stressful than the average secondary school in most other European countries. In fact I get the impression a lot of countries in Europe expect more of their students and have a more rigorous curriculum. Then consider Asia; many secondary schools in China, South Korea and Japan are much more competitive and intensive.

Basically, it varies from school to school. But I don't think the average school in England is unnecessarily stressful.

I believe that it depends on the school.
The high school that I went to had pretty high academic standards. Most students were honor roll students. I moved to another state and started attending these schools and I can not believe how lax the standards are!

I have been to schools in Asia and England. I also have a pretty good idea about school life in America because of my American friends and media(probably stereotypical tho :p)
but from my experience the answer is NO. schools in England is so much less stress than others. there's less bullying, tolerant- no REaLlY tolerant teachers. easy exams... for evidence England kids has less suicide rate than others? I think :/ but yeah England schools are a lot less stressful. try makin friends with foreigners and ask them about schools in their country.

It may be stressful, but be lucky. I don't know about all American schools, but mine sure as hell didn't give a shit if I learned anything.

england people get to go to school until they are 18 in america we have to go to school until we are like 23 or 24 or something like that and we have alot of tests and they are always worrying about what school gets the best grades so england people have it easy!
