    All the types of games you mention are simulations of one kind or another. The idea is that they fulfil some need or fantasy. Some people want to stalk around killing people whereas I want to be a football manager or racing driver (which is why I play football management games and racing games).

  • I disagree. Although I haven't purchased a sports game in years, I love playing football games, snowboarding games, hockey games (although the last one I played was on sega Lol), and so on. Car racing (if it's considered a sport) is also amazing.

    Try them out if you haven't already, I used to think the same.

    Mortal Kombat is better than wrestling games.

    I think sports games on a whole are boring but not all of them. In order for me to like sports games, I have to either like the sport already or the game has to go outside of realistic physics to get me hooked. Examples:

    I dislike basketball in real life. I've played all kinds of NBA this and they never did it for me. NBA Street with its insane vertical and flashy dunks as well as crazy ground tricks really pulled me in. Mario Hoops 3-on-3 was also equally creative.

    I love tennis! Therefore, whether its Virtua Tennis, Mario Tennis, Top Spin or even Wii Tennis, I loved them all.

    I find snowboarding, skating and anything similar fun to aim for high scores with so the Tony Hawk series, Jet Grind Radio, SSX and the like are fun. The Freejack parkour MMO is great too.

    I guess I just don't like most basketball, football and hockey games unless they go out of the norm.

    I get bored by all of them excluding Backbreaker and Madden NFL Blitz. They both make a mockery of actual football games and are just parodies.

      I like skating games if that counts as a sport.

    The only sports games I've enjoyed were the Mario Sports series and Quidditch.

    I think the games based on more unique sports are the ones that are fun, for example skate, Tiger Woods, Gran Turismo or Forza, Trials, etc. Or do you mean just games based on sports where you kick/throw a ball around, which I agree, can be very redundant. But they can be very fun to play if you are playing against a friend.

    WATCHING = BORING
    Who care's what people you don't know do!

    PLAYING = FUN
    Doing anything physical that takes skill and effort is fun, whether it's competitive or not, so long as it challenges oneself!

    GAMING = FUN
    Video games are fun because there are clearly defined goals which require skill to achieve. Playing against the computer, yourself, or others is still a challenge, and surmounting challenges are always fun.

    THEORIES
    A. MANY people fake enjoying watching sport to be able to bond / be closer to others that they believe enjoy watching sport.

    B. People also fake it from peer pressure or because they think it's normal to.

    C. People enjoy watching sports because it distracts them from their own lives and routing for a team means when the team succeeds, vicariously they themselves feel like they've achieved something, and in their lives this happens too seldom, so they take what victories they can.

    SUMMARY
    Why would watching strangers have fun be fun... I don't think it intrinsically is. We have to fool ourselves.

      football is a really exciting sport. u think people watch sports to fill a void in their lives? they need there team to win so they themselves can feel successful? that sounds so stupid.... sports are jus a past time...its fun to see yur favorite team winning.

    Yes. I would rather play said sport in real life. If there is no pain, there is no game.

    I don't think it's boring. I remember playing Madden (some year number) on my game cube where I would give myself a flag over and over again because I had so much fun crossing the line to the kicker during the free point kick and just tackling him right at the beginning of each play. Ah, good times, good times.
