It depends how old you are. Whether you think it's old or not depends on whether you're 15 or 115.
It is indeed true that from the perspective of a 15-y.o. person 37-40 is old, and that from the perspective of a 115-y.o. person it is young. In that sense, it is relative.
However, when considering an average lifespan of, say, 80, it IS also possible to think in absolutes. In that light, I would say: no, 37-40 isn't old (assuming they'll actually make it to 80 or beyond of course).
To me, old starts when you are 50. As always, there is truth in what dappled says, though.
I know an 80 year old who looks better than a lot of guys in their 50s and I'd put him up against most of the people here when it comes to hiking. At between 7K and 8K feet elevation, he can literally hike all day, I sure as hell can't and couldn't when I was half his age. Life and self-abuse (eg. smoking and excessive drinking, etc.) can make you old before your time. When I was 37-40 I was in better shape than I had ever been. I had 20 something guys asking me for workout tips and had women in the 20-30 range, hitting on me regularly. This isn't a brag, it's just the truth. At 41 I was in a serious car accident and suffered brain damage that resulted in a severe pain syndrome. Because of it I can barely walk and touching anything feels like my hands were burned. In the last ten years I've aged 20-30 years ... yeah, life can really kick your ass and teach you some humility. If woshijianadaren is right, then I'm 90
They say 30 is the new 20, so surely 40 must be the new 30? LOL. So really we're all getting younger as we go along ;) but seriously now that more and more people become centenarians, 37-40 isn't even halfway there yet. It annoys me when people say they feel over the hill at 25. Do they really want to feel old for the best part of their life?
no. when someone dies at 40 people say "oh they were so young!" they say the same thing when someone dies at 70! the point is do you feel old? if you do well then your body starts to believe it is and thats when you start to look the same as you feel.
You are not old until you are 60 and even at that age you could still be old but very youthful .
Nah I don't think that's old at all. Most (and I do mean MOST) of the men I'm attracted to are that age. I think that age is when the true sexiness comes out. Ha I don't know that's just my opinion.
It is anything but old! People are living well into their 90s and even 100 anymore. I would say 40 is the new 30. When I think of an elder, I think of someone who is 70+.
I know an 80 year old women that goes on mountain hikes. It all depends on your health alone. You are as old as your health says you are. And what of children with Progeria, the disease that makes children's bodies age to 80 years old when they are only five years old? Are these kids old? You are only as old as you are healthy.
I think you become mature when you act mature and you become old when you act old. Even a 50 year old who is active and spontaneous might be considered young.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, your only as old as you act and feel.
Age is only a number, it is how you feel at your particular age. But I do have to say when you are 58; {and sometimes feel the goodies it provides with it}, you look back at 37-40 agers and think that they are young "WHIPPER-SNAPPERS!". Especially when my 2 sons are now 34.
No.. Actually,,, OH HELL NO! having said that I had a neighbor who was 24 years old and used to yell at the kids in the neighborhood for playing. bitched all the time and looked like he had poopy pants most of the time. Age is in our heads. How old we feel is one thing we do have contol of in this world. Ever wonder why a grown man can revert back to a fart lighting snuggy giving 8 year old in like 2.5 seconds? cuz he can!
darn dappled got there before me, from my point of view that would seem slightly old, but if you compare it to the average lifespan you're only just abut halfway!
it depends on wat. Like for clubing hell ya. I think is funny when u see a old guy in club but it depends 4 wat.
In my opinion, old age is defined as the progressive declining of physical and mental performance becomes visible to everyone around you. For the most part, that occurs around the fifties even though it creeps badly in the forties.
If you have to divide all ages into only "old" and "young" and people live to around 85 these days in developed nations, then old starts at around 43. So if you're 37-42, you're still young, but almost old. In fact, I think most people, especially men, still look really young these days if they keep fit in their early forties.
Personally though, I divide it into thirds. There are people, to me, that are neither old nor young. I don't see someone being young one day and old the next. That sounds ridiculous to me. When someone says "old" or "older" I think like 70 and up. When someone says young I think under 35. And 35-69 is like a mature, middle-aged adult. I know people used to think you got old at 65, but times are changing. 65-year-olds are usually not physically or mentally "old people" nowadays, they're just like any other middle-aged person. We're living longer than even a few decades ago. I also think the word elderly is misused. These days, I think it should apply to like ages 85 and up, in other words, older than the average life expectancy (AKA: living on "borrowed time".)
However, in your jurisdiction, the terms "adolescent", "adult" and "senior citizen" might have legal rather than cultural definitions.
I've noticed that, in general, if a family has shorter generations, they seem to "get old" at an earlier age. I don't know how much of this is psychological and how much is genetic. In some parts of USA, for example, where people marry earlier and have kids young, the young moms look really old for their age and the grandparents look elderly by 50. Whereas, in families like mine where the generations are wider, people don't tend to look or act older until they're grandparents either, which is around age 70, since my family tends to have kids around 35. I think having kids late keeps you young. My grandmother is 85 but looks, sounds, and acts 57-60. Many of my family members have lived over 100 years.
(:
In general I wouldn't consider it old, but I wouldn't wanna date someone that age
Not until your 60 n than even you can still be youthful depending. Thier is a diffrence between youth and age as age can not be altered youth can .
When we were in middle school, the age of oldness was 35, LOL :D I laugh at that now; the perception of youth. But, I don't think you're really old until you get to being around 55. When you're in your fourties, your middle aged, not old. thirties, er, I can't really decide but that's the age when you have fully grown into yourself and matured. So I would go with mid 50's for old age.
You only as old as the girl you feeling :P
But seriously, I'm 44 and I still feel 24. My son says I'll never get old coz I'm still to crazy to be old
You are that age that you feel you are the other thing is just numbers ^^
iM 15 yhrs od and i dont think 37-40 is old. maybe because i have an soul of a 40-37 yr old because i like music from the 60s to the present and i like older men of 40 years most of the time and i wish i was that old . And how i wish that age would be really just nothing but a number
It all depends on woman lifestyle, if mature lady makes sure she isnt lazy/fat, her clothes, haircut etc arent from 80s she can easily be extremally atractive long after 40th birthday. I`m 27 years old and honestly I find alot of woman double my age still beautyfull and very attractive - my 30 yrs old friend is dating married 45years old lady and they seems quite happy tbh.
I think it really doesn't depend on how old you actually are, but the age that you act.
if people think 37-40 is old, then i should probably stop crushing on jenna elfman.
I just turned 40, and I'm in better shape than I was at 20. And I was in great shape then. My dad is 70 and he beat an athletic college girl in a 5k run. It's all relative. a 17 year old said i look old. a 37 year old said i look young.
