Art isn't about ideas. It's about style. The most crucial career decision is picking a good "ism" so everyone knows how to categorize you without understanding your work. You do goofy drawings on the sidewalk. Right. You're a suburban post-modernist.
Thanks Calvin and Hobbes and sorry Suckonthis9
I find pretentiousness pretentious.
I don't know much about the "art world". There's a lot to be encompassed by that term, really.
I think it can be. I think a true artistic, however, is capable of being critical of his work.
It seems like art is sort of like hip hop. The mainstream stuff tends to be awful. Granted I'm thinking of just splatter art. But then the underground stuff, like Lang Leav's poetry, is really amazing. However, like charli.m said the art world encompasses a lot of things so I can't really give it all a definite label.
The art *world* is pretentious, but I think that some individual artists just do what they do 'cause they like it, and they don't care about what other people think.
Most artists I've learned about have real talent and big ideas, or one or the other.
Of course. Art is vane, and so are artists. There are so many things to do on this planet that actually matter. Like, do you imagine Gandhi going "oh, I'll write a song about people who are rude to me". Art is bullshit.
