  • I've entertained the idea of becoming a swim coach. I currently give lessons, but my failed hopes of reaching the Olympics might be fulfilled in coaching the next. Either way I love the sport and will continue with it somehow after college. I'll try for one more Olympics before I throw in the towel.

Only if they weren't kids that seemed proud to be ignorant, dumb asshats.

  • I do better teaching in a one-on-one setting. I get overwhelmed in a large class setting, mainly because it is so hard keeping track of everyone. No, I would rather be some mentor.

Well, I feel like someday I may have to become a black market private teacher. =P

With the way education is becoming- where activities like languages and art and auto are being cut and sports kept- I feel like schools will continue going down the drain.

I don't want our generations to get dumber and dumber and become like the movie Idiocracy.

Well I love English but why so limited? Why not computers, or math, or science? I am sure we have some people here who know enough about the subjects to teach.

While earning a teaching degree, I had to work my way up, so to speak, starting with younger children to eventually get to university level. These are just my thoughts on teaching the different ages of students- each has its own pros and cons.

Primary school children tend to have the most behavioral issues, but their workload is much lighter and easiest to teach. In the younger grades, at least here, most schools have it set up so that one teacher has a homeroom and teaches every subject, which requires less organization but is pretty mundane.

Teenagers are the most difficult in my opinion. They've garnered a sense of independence by this point, not to mention peer pressure. Where in the younger grades there are usually a few troublemakers who can be easily reprimanded, those who still have that mindset have become much bigger and smarter, making them disruptive and hard to deal with. The work is obviously harder, but with a little one-on-one explanation it's usually not too bad.

College students are my favorite for a few reasons. Firstly, all the students want to be there- they want to learn the subject, where in every other level they usually don't have much choice. It's also stimulating because you only teach the one subject you're passionate about. There are relatively few behavioral issues, but most students do need extra help at some point.

Maybe I could I don't know. I'm not sure that I would have the patience to teach children unless they were interested in learning. I don't think I could handle children with behavioral problems. I don't really want to be nor do I think of myself as a disciplinarian.

I sure hope so. I mean, I really want to do that at some point in my life. I don't know if I could teach really young kids, but anyone over 11 including adults. I don't know if I'd want to teach in a private school, though - vocation-wise, it doesn't sound like my thing. From what I'm studying now, I'd probably end up teaching psychology or sociology or politics or history or sex ed. Ask me in a few years and I'll be able to tell you :P

Only if they wanted to learn. I'd have no interest in becoming a "babysitter" as most public school teachers really are these days.
That system is broken and needs a good overhaul, starting with the parents once again taking on the responsibility of raising their own damn children.
