I think there has been an increase, not sure about a dramatic one but yes an increase.

I say it is mostly because of the technology we have today that allows people of the new generation to research and study on their own about our exsistence and where we came from rather than being taught what they should and should not believe. Also with a lot of the advancements in science like curing diseases, cloning etc, an intelligent person would question if a supreme being exsists when we have the power to so easily manipulate and control our own species.

I just think more people are siding with the white robed scientists instead of the black robe priests.

I think people are just becoming more comfortable discussing beliefs that don't fit the mainstream where previously they would have to hide them.

I was raised to not question my beliefs about the Christian "god" but I also come from humble beginings, it wasnt till i was able to get around the internet and do my own research about god i.e. Zietgiest, Religulous, Pen & Tellers B.S., check that out by the way, but then i was able to break free of years of indoctrination. I credit youtube alot with helping me understand and i honestly think religion is on the down slope, theres a new age just ahead...

Atheists were the original apathetic church members that only went because the government required them to.

They were sitting right next to the Protestants who were pissed that the Catholics were severely misinterpreting the "correct" way of conducting Christianity.

Who were sitting next to the Catholics that would burn them at the stake if either two opened their mouths.

And then, there was Mr. T, who pitied the foo's.

Yep just like the bible says: For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy (2 Timothy 3:2)

Ever since the internet has been growing so has the number of atheists. People started talking about their atheist beliefs on the internet allowing others with the same beliefs (but were frowned upon in society) to finally speak out.

I rarely meet people who admit to being atheist...though plenty who say they are not religious or practice religion..are you sure you are not confusing the two different groups?

Science. We no are advanced enough to know that there isn't a man living in the sky running our lives. The theory of evolution has also opened out minds to the possibility that our ancestors made up gods to explain that which could not be explained.

Yeah, it's normal. I never went to church and no one in my family or school every mentioned religion. I did go to those Sunday classes for kids but I don't remember learning anything haha. I do believe in a higher power though, ever since I was a kid. I remember asking for help once but nothing happened. Then later I realized I was capable of helping myself. If you don't believe in a higher power/s than you have to at least believe in yourself.

I don't think there's been an increase, but rather ... now that you yourself are more open about your faith you're finding others who are similar.

It's getting there. Due to the Internet, people are exposed to many different views and beliefs on YouTube etc. whereas before you would only know what people in your locality believed, which isn't much of a variety.
