From what I heard online, there's people that are willing to go to Mars in the attempt to colonize it. A couple of groups I recall wanting to do this are MarsOne and SpaceX. NASA may be attempting this as well.
To be honest, I doubt we'll even be able to. If we actually are, I don't think we should.

I believe we will force ourselves to leave this planet with our overpopulation and pollution. Mars will be a viable short term option, but in the long run, we will have to go much farther afield if the human race is to survive.
Dr Hohmann's method actually allows for human travel to Mars and it will take like 8 months to get there.
The thing about Mars is that its atmosphere is less than 1% of Earth's atmosphere's density. So people will get titted hectically. They are actually planning on building habitats on Mars where plants can grow in because CO2 levels on Mars is poisonous even for plants right now.
Temperatures also get down to -85'C there.
Although it sounds awesome to be able to go live on another planet...there are just too many negatives.

Yes, because when a disastrous worldwide event occurs (ex: The Grey Goo, a Plague, Asteroid hitting the Earth) where would we go? Mars is our best option.
The Mars mission is real. It is also a suicide mission. The people who go will not be coming back. They may not even survive the journey. Still, there is no shortage of volunteers.
The mission is a good idea, if for no other reason than to finally have "eyes on" witnesses on the red planet. This is not a colonization effort. These people who go will die there. They will not be setting things up for future residents. This is an exploratory mission, pure and simple. But it may lay the groundwork for bigger and better things. Only time will tell.
